My First M/M meme-I Suck

manlove_rdI got tagged by Mandi at SmexyBooks  for this m/m meme. It’s my first time, I’m an m/m meme virgin. Who better to deflower me than Ms. Smexy?

Let’s get to it:

Rules:
1. Answer all the questions below in either the comments here or post it on your own site. If you post it on your own site you have to come back and give the link here so I can mosey on over and see if you have a sticky beak.<-----A What? Seriously, I didn’t write that, it came with the meme. Is that some kind of m/m code for something?

2. You have to tag two other people once you’re done and pester them relentlessly until they do the meme too.

3. Instead of a meme image thing you have to post a cookie, preferably a twofer. It is an m/m meme after all.  Here’s my cookie:

cutedogs

Is this sexy m/m love?  No?  It’s cute though right?

x16781105Ok, how about this for a cookie?  Better?  Anyone bring milk?

Questions:

1. How long have you been reading GLBTQ fiction?
Oh I’m a newbie. I’ve only read a couple of m/m romances. I haven’t gotten to the L or T yet, but I suppose the B and Q have been taken care of in my erotica reads.

2. What was the first book you read in this genre?
First m/m romance: Gobsmacked by L.B Gregg.

3. Are you 'out' as a reader?
I’m not out and loud like Smexy but I don’t hide what I’m reading.  It all goes on the GoodReads shelf.

4. Ebooks, print or both?
I’ve only read a few m/m on recommendation and they were purchased online—e-books.

5. Do you buy direct from publishers or from secondary sellers? Secondary seller, is that bad?

6. Prove you're a Book Slut. How many books would you say you buy a week?
If I averaged it out, I’d say 1-2 books a week. Ok, maybe more if my favorite book pimps are hustlin’.  However, m/m not even close to that.

7. Are you a cover, blurb or excerpt buyer?
Cover and blurb girl here.

8. Yeah, you read reviews, but do you actually take notice of them?
Oh yes.  However my m/m reads have come to me by recommendation of online friends not reviews.

9. Who's your fave publisher?
No idea.

10. What about authors? Your top two only!!
As I said, I’ve only read a few m/m.  I do like L.B. Gregg.

11. Is there a sub-genre you particularly dis/like?
No, not yet.

12. Short or long?? *rolls eyes* And, no, I'm not talking about cocks.  Well, I immediately thought wiener and got a visual.  Thanks.  I prefer full length novels.

13. Anything turn you off about m/m or is all just glorious smut to you? As long as there’s a good romance in there I’m good.

14. Finish this sentence. You know it's m/m twu wuv when... you and your lover participate in an onstage wank off contest.  Sorry, that was in a bad m/m I read. LOL

15. What trope or theme are you heartily sick of in m/m romance?
I don’t think I’ve read m/m to get sick of anything yet.

16. If you could choose any 3 characters for an m/m/m who would they be?
Ok, my newbie-ness is really showing here.  I have no idea.

17. What new GLBTQ release are you most hanging out for right now? Ok, so Smexy’s excited for The Dark Tide - Josh Lanyon. She heart’s Adrien. So I suppose I’ll have to look into this—It’s a series right?

18. What GLBTQ book has completely blown you away this year?
Well crap, I suck at this. I don’t think I’ve been blown away yet but there’s still time to get blown right?

19. What do you think we'll see more of in m/m romance in 2010?
I’ve only read contemporary so I’m going to say more UF, PNR, Historical?

20. Don't you agree that author Josh Lanyon should kill off arsehole character Jake Riordan?
Are you trying to shame me into reading more m/m?  Most people know I have no resistance to peer pressure.  NONE.  *grumbles* *Looking into this Josh Lanyon guy* *grumbles*

Well, I’ve proven once again, I’m not the cool kid. *hmph* I think I need to expand my horizons!

You had to give me homework for the weekend didn't ya *grin* I really love this meme so that won't be a hardship! I'm getting a few names via this meme I really need to put on my list...L.B.Gregg hhmmmm, rumages on desk - finds post-it - writes up name for later.

Even for a "newbie" you made the meme fun VF ;)and perhaps I'm going to be baptized newbie #2 when asking; What does GLBTQ mean??

Fiction Vixen said...

It means Gay, lesbian, bi, trans, and questioning. I'm not positive on the questioning. ;). Thanks for playing along Leontine. I'm looking forward to your answers.

Yes, you must read the Adrien English series, Fatal Shadows is the first book. Such a good series - not overly smutty - but unique and well written!

I read my first F/F story in a gay werewolf anthology, and that f/f story turned out to be my favorite one in the book! The author just told me she got contracted to write a novel length book now..so I will make you read that too - HA!

One of my new fav authors is Ava March - she writes historical m/m books. You def need to check her out.

Ok, done making you read books for the moment ;)

ps - dog pic made me snort my coffee.

@Leontine - I'm glad you asked because I was feeling naive about not knowing what the Q stood for!

Hmmm...would questioning be like Butch/Vishous before they got mated?

Fiction Vixen said...

@Mandi--Thanks for all the reqs and for tagging me with this meme. It was fun!

@The Book Vixen--are you laughing at me? Are you? *keeping my eye on you*

@Patti--I have no idea about the 'questioning'. Vishous seemed pretty sure of himself, he wanted Butch! LOL

"Well, I immediately thought wiener and got a visual. Thanks."

Welcome! ;)

Thanks heaps for having a go at this when you're so new to the genre. And I see that someone started you off with "The Assignment", which is everyone's fave love/hate. LOL.

BTW, having a 'sticky beak' must be an Aussie expression. It basically means 'going to have a look'. See, not only are you learning about m/m, Fiction Vixen, you learning Oz too. :)

Fiction Vixen said...

@Kris--Thank you for stopping by and clarifying the 'sticky beak' thing for me. Some part of me secretly wishes 'sticky beak' was some kind of manlove code though. LOL.

And yes, you are right, I read "The Assignment." There was a great deal about the book that I enjoyed. But I guess it just wasn't what I was looking for an m/m romance.

I'm still stuck on the sticky beak. LOL

Love the Manlove sign - Rodeo Drive can suck it! I love this meme way to be creative FV :)

Don't feel bad, FV. I've never managed to read any Josh Lanyon, and I'm a little scared that I'm not well read enough in the genre to do the meme at all.

Oh, and if you want F/F recs, read Kirsten Saell. All but her latest book are M/F/F, and they are great fantasy romances. Plus, nobody I know in blogland ever talks about her, and I think she should be pimped everywhere because I love her like burning.

Fiction Vixen said...

@smokinhotbooks--has someone been watching Bravo? Kathy Griffin fan? :)

@Shannon C--Thanks for the rec! I'll check out Kirsten Saell.

my homework is done, madam ;P not sure how good it is though *bites nails*

Fiction Vixen said...

I'm on my way over! I'm sure you did much better than me. I had no idea I was such a lame-ass reader of GLBTQ. :)

I love your answer for number one - how specific are you...

Hope you get to the missing letter soon...

Welcome to M/M love...

Fiction Vixen
I love paranormal romance, urban fantasy, historical romance with a nice bit of erotic romance thrown in for good measure. Although I enjoy my fantasy world of alpha males, and the kick ass females who love them, my inner teenage girl has been known to stalk the book stores and libraries for all the latest YA offerings as well.
