Don't think.
Don't question.
Just do.
The anonymous note wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the habit of reading other people's mail, but it was just a piece of paper with a few lines scrawled on it, clearly meant for the apartment upstairs. It looked so innocent, but decidedly-- deliciously--it was not.
Before replacing the note--and the ones that followed --in its rightful slot, I devoured its contents: suggestions, instructions, summonses, commands. Each was more daring, more intricate and more arousing than the last... and I followed them all to the letter.
Before the notes, if a man had told me what to do, I'd have told him where to go. But submission is an art, and there's something oddly freeing about doing someone's bidding...especially when it feels so very, very good.
But I find that the more I surrender, the more powerful I feel--so it's time to switch up roles.
We play by my rules now.
The cover on this book jumped off my computer monitor and screamed, “You must read this book!” I immediately clicked for a better look and something strange happened. You know those optical illusions where you look at a picture and your brain interprets it one way, and then you can look at it again later and your brain will interpret it in a completely different way and you’ll see a whole new picture? That’s what happened for me with this cover. At first I saw a sexy cover that convinced me I needed to check this book out. Then, next thing I know I saw a man, with a deformed bicep, sniffing his own armpit, lightly touching his own head. Huh? I knew this was ridiculous but no matter how I tried to reconcile, all I could see was the weird bicep guy. Then, as fast as the weird bicep guy appeared, poof he was gone and gorgeous guy nuzzling his lovers thigh, while she lovingly touches his head was back. I am aware that by publicly admitting this that I’m providing solid proof of my impending insanity, but whatever, my secret was bound to get out sooner or later. So now that we’ve established that I’m well on my way to the loony bin, let’s talk about one of the best erotic romances I’ve read this year.
I know some people are turned off by a story written in first person because they feel they miss out on the other characters perspective, but I generally like it. I think it makes it easier to sympathize with the protagonist, understand where they’re coming from and why they do what they do. However this was not the case for me in Switch. Although I enjoyed reading from the main character’s point of view, I was all over the place in who I was rooting for, and how I felt about the main and secondary characters. I think switch is a good description of my loyalties to the characters in this book. This novel was an emotional ride for me to say the least.
Paige is a young, single twenty-something working hard and living in one the areas hottest new apartment buildings. When she finds a note in her mailbox meant for someone else, she decides to take a peek. Paige realizes the note is from a Dominant, meant for his/her submissive and she becomes intrigued and a just bit aroused. She commits it, and all the others that follow to memory so she can carefully follow their instructions. Discipline is the theme of the notes and it’s something Paige seems to crave in her life.
Through the notes, Paige develops an anonymous pseudo Dom/sub relationship first with the sender and then later with the receiver. In the course of her pseudo relationships, Paige begins to work through her relationships with her parents, boss, friends and her romantic partner. Some of her decisions and actions frustrated me but it’s part of what made this novel so great. Megan Hart has written a story that effectively took me on an emotional journey from joy to frustration to anger with a few erotic twists and turns.
There is one particular scene where no one actually has physical sex with with anyone else but I must say it was an incredibly titillating scene. Actually there are two “sex but no sex” scenes that will get your blood boiling.
Megan Hart’s erotic writing style is sizzling hot, but it doesn’t overpower the heart of the story which is very important to me as a reader. I definitely want to read more from this author and if her other books are anywhere near good as this one, I will safely say Megan Hart has reset the bar in what I expect from an erotic romance. This novel was a winner for me.

Book was obtained from the publisher.

About FV
- Fiction Vixen
- I love paranormal romance, urban fantasy, historical romance with a nice bit of erotic romance thrown in for good measure. Although I enjoy my fantasy world of alpha males, and the kick ass females who love them, my inner teenage girl has been known to stalk the book stores and libraries for all the latest YA offerings as well.

After reading your review this story screams my name Fiction Vixen!! I have a weakness for the Dom/sub storylines. *runs of to BookDepStore*
*skitting to a halt* How is the ending FV, is there a true HAE?? I read another Hart novel where the ending was so bittersweet I was traumatized :S
Leontine--Yes, it's a good HEA, but I wasn't sure it was going to be until the very last minute. I loved this book!!
Soo.. I'm intrigued. I want to know if we ever meet the sender or receiver of the notes. And does she end up with one of them or does she make things work with her romantic partner? I guess I'll have to read to find out!
Caitlin--Now I'd be spoiling you if I told you. But, I will tell you this, you won't know for sure how it all works out until the very end. :) Read the book! lol
I so saw what you saw on the cover at first glance, lol. Sometimes all the body parts on covers just blend together.
I've read two other Megan Hart books--Deeper and Dirty and had mixed feelings. I enjoyed Deeper, but it definitely was a bittersweet one. And Dirty was a good story, but depressing, and I had trouble liking the MC. Part of the issue with Dirty may have been that first person narrative.
But anyway, you have me intrigued, so I may have to give this one a shot. Thanks for the review.
Roni--Switch is written in first person as well. I admit I both loved and hated the main character but in the end, that's why I loved the book. Megan Hart "took me there" so to speak. I hope you like it too!
Hey Fiction, I am a die hard fan of Ms. Hart's work (go check out my reviews of her other stories - let me know if you do). I started with Stranger (and that one still sets the bar for me), then Tempted, then Broken (and that one stole it for me!!!!!!!!).. and I have a few more on my shelf to get to. Her work is freaking fantastic. She definitely knows how to get your emotions going, your blood pumping and your thoughts stirring. I can not wait to add this one to my shelf as well. She has become an AUTO Buy for me. Some have read a story by her and it left them emotionally drained. But I absolutely love them all!!!! For that reason, she brings out everything in you!
Sorry for it to be long...
Hope you have a great day!
Cecile! You just said everything I wanted to say in my review! LOL. We'll have to do a duel review of one of Megan's books one of these days. :)
ok, I am putting this author on my list for my Erotica Challenge.....
I can't wait to hear what you think KV.
Just give me a shout when you are ready honey... Vixen & Smutty Hussy - watch out world, lol!!!!!
Cecile-Let's do it! Sometime in Jan or Feb. These pesky holidays are distracting me from reading LOL. I'm going to check out your Hart reviews today. :)
No problem hon, I am feeling you too on the holidays! Just shot me an email and we will get together!!!
I really enjoy this author's writing style as well. I haven't read this book yet, but will put it on the list.
I'm still a Megan Hart virgin. I love reading reviews of her books because they seem to bring out so much emotion in everyone. I definitely need to try one.
This sounds really hot (I am intrigued in spite of my vanilla-ish self). Thanks for the great review...I am going to put it on my TBR shelf at Goodreads!
Ah, now the tweets make more sense. :) lol That makes it all the more interesting. :)
Okay I've been challenged to read an historical ::sigh:: by Pearl and Marissa...should I bump down that challenge and read Switch? It sounds yummy and it's so cold today {brrr} I need to be warmed up *wink*
Dang, another book for my TBB list! It's getting out of control and your reviews are certainly not helping ;) too good!
I have my doubts about the first person narrative though, but how can I ignore 4.5 hearts? You certainly got me intrigued!
J. Kaye--I'm glad to hear you like her style. This is my first MH read and I was hoping her other books are written in the same style.
Mandi--I'll admit, I was thinking about the characters in this book when I wasn't reading it. When the characters stay with me, it's a good one.
Penelope--If you make it through the infamous "chapter 32" I think you'll be ok with Switch. There's nothing too over the top :)
Melissa--Don't you just love the tweets? LOL
SmokinHotBooks--Yes, bump the challenge! This is a good one!
Janna--I know a lot of people don't like first person but I think it really worked in this book. It was Paige's story and her journey. This book takes you into so many of her relationships and how they change because of her and what she learns etc. Go read it! :)
I so love Megan Harts books. She has such a diffrent style to most writers in this genre and always surprises me. Can't wait to get this one!
Great review!
And I really can't see the armpit.LOL
@Fiction Vixen - ffeewww, okay, now I'm at ease and can buy a copy with confidence *grin*
I've got this one on my TBR list. It just might be the one to pop my dom/sub cherry.
That Hookah website is freakin hilarious!! The book dance - LOL!!
You've convinced me to give this book a shot. :) I've been meaning to read Megan Hart for awhile now.
I have an award for you at My place
Haha! I didn't see it before you described it but now I do! And it's weird because I just blogged about a sort of optical illusion thing that happened to me with the cover of 'Better Part of Darkness'
