Lipstick On His Collar starts out very sultry and sexy right off the bat. There’s nothing wrong with sexy and sultry, I like that, but I need substance and emotional connection in my erotic romance so I felt a little twinge of disappointment. But then I remembered how much I’ve enjoyed this author’s past works and the interesting relationships she creates within her erotic stories so I continued on.
Lady and Bram meet one hot summer night and the chemistry is instant and hot! Lady is clearly looking for a night of adventure and passion but nothing more. Bram is completely taken by Lady and fully willing to oblige her. However there is just something about her that makes him want more from her. He is determined to keep her and she is determined to move on even though she feels the same connection as Bram does. Bram wakes the next morning to an empty bed and the feeling that Lady could have been much more than just a one night stand.
There’s more to Lady than just a woman looking for a one-time steamy tryst. She has just recently broken up with her weird, stalker-type boyfriend. Being with Bram is her way of reclaiming her independence and reminding herself she is a sexy, desirable woman. Just one night, then move on and get on with her life. But her ex-boyfriend is determined to have her no matter what.
When Bram and Lady have a chance meeting five months later the heat and chemistry they stirred in each other is instantly reignited. They come together for a some very sexy laundromat lovin’ but the ex-boyfriend is stalking Lady and confronts them in a jealous fit. Bram wants to protect Lady but she needs to make a stand as well.
As I said, this novella started out on a very sexy note. But what I really liked is how Inez Kelley reigned in the sex and allowed her characters to gradually seduce each other. It was mutually agreed between Bram and Lady that they would be spending the night together so there was no question as to where their brief relationship was heading, but I found it very sexy in how these two characters created a slow sensual build-up to their night of passion. I found both characters very likable with enough depth to become invested in their budding relationship.
My only complaint is with how the conflict the with ex-boyfriend is resolved. It’s all wrapped up fairly quickly at the end and I would have preferred a little more from that angle of the story. He was an effective villain, I definitely got the ‘creep’ factor from him but the ending was just too rushed.
Lipstick On His Collar is another scorching hot romance from Inez Kelley. This short novella packs a lot of sensual punch with sexy, likable characters and a story that is entertaining from beginning to end.
