Reading Roundup – March 2011

I’m a little late with the reading roundup but better late than never I always say. Actually I don’t say that, I hate being late. Bad me.

Here are the stats for my March reading roundup:

  • 1 – 5 heart rating
  • 7 – 4 heart ratings
  • 1 – 3.5 heart rating
  • 2 – 3 heart rating
  • 1 – 2.5 heart ratings
  • 2 – DNF’s

Friday Night Bites  Chloe Neill – Currently reading

Demons Are a Girl’s Best Friend Linda Wisdom – Currently Reading

Bound by Deception (Bound, #1) Ava March – 4
I read all three Bound books back to back. Really enjoyed these books. Oliver and Vincent are naughty boys

Bound to Him (Bound, #2) Ava March – 4
Another sexy, story.

Bound Forever (Bound, #3) Ava March – 4
Review coming soon.

Sweet as Sin Inez Kelley – 5
LOVED this book! Very emotionally intense and one of the best books I’ve read this year.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness  Jeaniene Frost – 4
Had to read this one after reading This Side Of The Grave, I had to read Mencheres’ story. Really enjoyed it.

The Spymaster’s Lady Joanna Bourne – 4
My first Joanna Bourne and this was just wonderful. It’s authors like this that keep me coming back for historical romance.

Stone Kissed Keri Stevens – 2.5
This one was a little different. Not bad but not totally to my taste.

Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) Larissa Ione – DNF
I was excited to give this new spin-off series a go but there was just so much information to absorb I just couldn’t get into the story.

Secrets of a Proper Countess Lecia Cornwall – 4
This debut author really rocked it with this book. I really enjoyed it and will definitely read more from her.

Slower Lower Love Lila Munro – DNF
I put this on the shelf to try again later. I might not have been in the mood when I tried this one.

Rock Hard (Sinners on Tour, #2) Olivia Cunning – 3
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the previous book, I had problems with the hero and heroine, but it was still a fun read. I really enjoyed the other characters in the book and look forward to the next book in the series. (Jace!)

Beg Me Shiloh Walker – 3
After having read two other Shiloh Walker books I was disappointed in this one. I disliked the heroine and was disappointed that the book has many typos and errors.

Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) Victoria Dahl – 4
Loved this first book in the series and had fun reviewing it with Catherine.

Start Me Up (Tumble Creek, #2) Victoria Dahl – 3.5
I really like this series and enjoyed this book very much. Just had a little hiccup with the heroine otherwise I would have rated higher. Joint review to come.

So that was my reading month for March. How does it compare to yours? Did you read anything in March that I must read?

Comments

  1. I liked Eternal Rider but I didn’t heart it as much as her demonica series. Actually, now that I think about it I can’t really remember much of the story…

  2. Sophia (FV) says:

@KC/Smokinhotbooks: I didn’t read Demonica so I can’t compare but my problem with was the large amount information presented.

  3. Catherine says:

I enjoyed The Spymaster’s Lady as well, but didn’t enjoy the next book. What worked so well in the first one grated on me in the second. I still need to try The Forbidden Rose eventually.

I hope you enjoy Friday Night Bites. I am obsessed with that series!

  4. Sophia (FV) says:

@Catherine: Oh how funny, I was literally just emailing a friend about the Chicagoland Vamp series saying I don’t get the OMG reaction people have about it. It’s moving a little slow for me.

  5. Catherine says:

@Sophia (FV): Maybe you were expecting too much? I did that with Lord of Scoundrels. That book is very loved. I enjoyed it a lot, but I was perplexed by the Best Book EVA!!! reputation it had. Or it could just not be your type.

  6. Sophia (FV) says:

@Catherine: That is exactly it! I’m more in the mood for romantic UF and there isn’t enough romance going on in this series. The chemistry between Merit and Ethan is a little subtle for me. I’m not felling the tension. I guess I expected more from all the chatter about Ethan, blah, blah, blah. The seems ok but I thought I’d be getting more in the way of romantic tension based on the chatter.

  7. Catherine says:

@Sophia (FV): The romance is very low key in this series. It drives me a little nuts because as a Romance lover I just want more. I think I screamed Nooooooo! in the third book when something specific happened involving Merit and Ethan. :D

  8. Sophia (FV) says:

@Catherine: I don’t always need romance in UF but if I expect it going in, I feel let down. After this book I’m going to set the series aside for a bit and come back to it. Now that I know there is very little romance I will come back with new expectations.

  9. Catherine says:

@Sophia (FV): I am exactly the same way! I didn’t have any romantic expectations of this series, but there have been others that I’ve been extremely disappointed in after hearing so much about the love interest.

Also, I tend to prefer the UF’s that don’t stray too close to the romance line. Then I just find myself unhappy because the author got my hopes up but then dashed them by leaving it hanging or not developing it enough.

  10. Sophia (FV) says:

@Catherine: Oddly enough, after I complained about the lack of romantic tension it skyrocketed. Lesson I learned? Complain soon. LOL

  11. Catherine says:

    @Sophia (FV): LOL!
