Review: Men Out of Uniform Anthology

First of all – is that Paul Marron striking a hot sexy pose on the cover? I do believe it is. That man gets around. ;-)

Men Out of Uniform is an anthology with stories from Maya Banks, Karin Tabke, and Slyvia Day. All new to me authors so I was excited to give it a try. I would say overall the main focus in each story is sex, sex, and more sex with an emphasis on the threat of or actual act of buttsecks. That’s what instantly comes to my mind when I think about the 3 stories.  So if you’re looking for that kind of read right now, then pick up this book.

Soul Possession by Maya Banks

Jessie spends a hot night with two sexy as sin detectives, only to be accused of murder the very next day. But when Jessie becomes the target of a serial killer her two detectives will risk everything to have her back in their arms and in their bed…

I found it a little hard to believe this story with these two super alpha males being willing to share this down-on-her luck waitress Jessie. And not so much the sharing of the “sex” but more so the share of “love”. And what didn’t really jive for me with their threesome coupledom is the fact that the men seem uncomfortable with seeing each other naked but yet the three of them can do the dirty deed over and over again. Huh? That head-scratcher aside, this was an okay read for me. The sex definitely piqued my interest enough to try another book from Maya Banks.

Wanted by Karin Tabke

This story follows the x-rated exploits of bad-boy cop Colin Daniels and the soon to be ex-wife of a mob boss. He’s been hired to guard her body, but it drives him to the distraction instead, putting his career – and his life – on the line…

Pretending they don’t know each other from years ago, these two dance around each other and their desires for awhile before they get down to business all while trying to keep danger at bay. I think I enjoyed the sex in this one the best. Colin is quite legendary in his sexcapades and the man can definitely deliver.

Taking the Heat by Sylvia Day

It’s time for protected witness Layla Creed to come out of hiding and take the stand. Layla has only three days to reconnect with federal marshal Brian Simmons-and to slake the white hot lust that has simmered between them for years…

This one had the most “story” to sink my teeth into and the sex was pretty fantastic as well. But Sylvia Day did a great job writing two characters that made it easy to connect with emotionally in such a short period of time that Taking the Heat won me over as my favorite in this anthology.

Colin from Wanted is still my man though. Mmmm Hmmm definitely Colin. ;-)  Again, the title of this book Men OUT of Uniform and what a fitting title it is.

Favorite Quote

Colin shook his head in disgust. He may be a wham-bam-thank you-very-much-ma’am kind of guy, but he always left his women with a smile on their faces and an orgasm or two to keep them warm.

I didn’t really like the Maya Banks story- but I enjoyed the other two. Karin Tabke’s story made me giggle..especially the last line with the “yam” :)

And damn Sylvia Day writes naughty, naughty smexy times :)

Oh I hate this!! It never makes sense to me. It always kills a menage story for me.

    Great review Samantha.

Great review Samantha! I love Maya Banks stuff, but some of her menage books really fall flat for me. I have such a hard time believing the whole three-some HEA, especially when things like the whole “naked” issue and the sharing aren’t explored or explained. But you should definitely read her other stuff, I love her writing!

I usually detest anthologies because the story never seems to develop fully, however, I too have wanted to lick the cover of this bad boy as well and take a chance with Men Out of Uniform! Thanks for giving us a quick rundown of the stories!
