Sloan McKinley is stuck in a never-ending cycle in New York City. Her family is considered high society and she is the ultimate failure having not yet married and spit out the required 2.4 kids. After another disastrous set up attempt by her mother she decides to take her best friend Grier up on her offer to come visit her in small town Indigo, Alaska. Once Sloan arrives in Alaska she finds out the annual “Great Bachelor Competition” is about to happen. The competition is held by the matriarchs of the town in hopes of getting their 3 grandsons and other eligible bachelors married off. Somehow Sloan and Grier agree to take part in the competition and truly get roped into the beauty of the town and its members.
This is my first book by Addison Fox. And I will say that I am so pleasantly surprised and delighted by this book. I didn’t know what to expect going in but what I got was a fun, sassy, well-written, hysterical, heartfelt and entertaining book. The series is set up to be a trilogy based upon the 3 grandson bachelors the competition is held for. Besides the main story of Sloan and Walker there are the two other obvious setups of Grier and Mick and Roman and Avery.
Walker is the definition of a confirmed bachelor. His father cheated on his mother many times thus destroying Walker’s belief there can possibly be a HEA for him. As long as he keeps things simple with women, meaning they know the score going in, everything works out perfectly. Then along comes Sloan and she blows all his preconceived notions right out of the water. Throughout the book we get to watch Walker fall hard and fast for Sloan all the while denying that anything is happening. Sloan will eventually go back to NYC and it will have been a fun, fast fling, right? Maybe, maybe not. You must read to find out. All I can say is their relationship is believable, hot, fun, hot and poignant as we watch the barriers fall between the two of them.
The setup for the next two books is gone into a lot in this one. Mick and Grier will be the next book. Grier is in Indigo, Alaska because her father passed away leaving her his home up there. However, she has a half-sister that she knew nothing about. Kate is a resident of Indigo and wants nothing to do with Grier. The will is being protested by both Kate and Grier so Grier is stuck in Indigo until everything is resolved. Mick, one of the grandsons, is clearly Grier’s love interest and the sparks just fly.
Roman, the final book, is paired up with Avery. Avery is a resident of Indigo and the one that Roman left behind. Roman is a hockey star and lives in NYC. This will be the book I am really looking forward to.
While reading this book, I laughed, I cried, I snorted and I said “awwww” many times. I have to tell you about one thing that brought a tear to my eye several times. The “Great Bachelor Competition” was started by the grandma’s to find love for their sons and grandsons. It was started because on of the grandma’s lost her husband at an early age. To go with the competition and theme of the town they commission a statue for the center of the city. It is a man and woman wrapped around each other clearly in love and deeply close to each other. At the base of the statue there is a plaque that says, “For those we aren’t allowed to keep.” Um, okay. Even thinking about it now chokes me up. How powerful a statement.
I can truthfully say that after reading this book, the only thing I that disappointed me in is that the next one doesn’t come out until November 2012. That is so far away. I will look forward to that book and it will be in my hands on release day. This book easily came in at an A- for me. I highly recommend to everyone.
Favorite Quotes:
“Case in point: one Trevor Stuart Kincaid the Fourth- Trent to all who knew and loved him. If the asshole stuck his hand on her knee and allowed his pinky finger to creep up her inner thigh one more time, she was likely to go all Terminator on his Armani-covered ass.
And
“…, something deep down inside him- something primal- had him unwilling to leave her exposed to the rest of the men in this town, all of whom were eyeing her like a brand-new Zamboni for the town rink.
A bright, shiny Zamboni with a heartbreaking smile, warm blue eyes and truly superior breasts.
And that, my friends, was the sign of a man completely losing it.
That he’d dare compare the woman to a Zamboni was bad enough. That she’s torqued him up so much he was willing to concede to his grandmother….
Well, fuck.”

I’m glad you enjoyed this one. Do you think too much time was spent playing sequel bait? I’m always nervous of that.
There was a very big emphasis on the next couple of books. I liked the way everything played out but I can see how it would get to be too much. The next couple is developed so much that I almost wonder what she will write about in their book!
Well if you liked it, that’s all that mattered. I like the author stirring interest in the next couples, I just don’t like it when it takes away from the main story.
I love this. I really like romances built up around families as well. Great review Jen.
Thanks. It really was a super cute book. I can’t wait until the next one.
I love finding new contemporary romances… I don’t get why they always have to come in threes, and if you have to write a trilogy at least let it be published close together
But I’m definitely reading this one and then I’ll suffer a year until I can read the next book. And of course, the last book is always the one I’m most looking forward to read.
Yes, the third book in the triology promises to be the best one. Authors do have a way of setting that up. I have found Nora Roberts to be excellent at that too.
Hope you like it!
Awwww, I want to read it
It sounds fun, and cute, and Alaska, I haven’t read much set there
I hope you enjoy it. It really was a fun book!
