It looks like we finally have a cover for Tricked, Kevin Hearne’s fourth book in his Iron Druid Chronicles. I bought the first book in this series and am anxious to give it a try. I have heard very good thing so far. You can expect to see this book hit the shelves on April 24th.

Tin Swift, the second book in the Age of Steam series by Devon Monk, is looking pretty good. I really like how masculine and adventurous these covers seem. I read the first book, Dead Iron, last year and found the world absolutely fascinating. Here’s hoping that this one is just as interesting. This book will be released on July 3rd.

I’ve got to say, I like the cover of Stalking the Others a lot more than I do the last two covers in the series. They looked awkward. You can expect this latest offering from Jess Haines on July 3rd.

I just got my hands on the first book in the Arcadia Bell series, so I was excited to see the cover of the second book, Summoning the Night. I’ve heard raves about Jenn Bennett (which is why I bought the first book) and I’m hoping that I’ll soon be one of the many fans waiting on pins and needles for this book to release. It’ll be here before you know it. April 24th isn’t all that far away.

I’m surprised to see how different Darkness Devours by Keri Arthur looks compared to the last two books in the Dark Angels series. I like it, I just think it’s quite a bit of a change. What do you guys think? Do you like this style or the style of the previous two more?

I read the first book in the Half-Light City series and thought it was great. It was dark and complicated, and I thought the world was very interesting. I hope that M.J. Scott packs the same punch in Blood Kin. It’s about Guy, the brother of the first book’s hero, so I can’t wait. Who doesn’t want to get a deeper look into the Templar’s head? I’m ready for June 5th to get here so I can get my hands on this book.

This is another late notice cover, but like I said, I’ve been out of the loop lately. I am a bit nervous to read Black Howl. I loved the first book, Black Wings, but was less impressed the second book, Black Night. I think the author might have decided to bring a love triangle into play, and I am not down with that. At all. I guess I’m just going to have to keep my fingers crossed that come February 28th, I’ll see that I was wrong about where I thought Christina Henry was taking the story. Hey, I can always hope, right?

Back From the Undead is the fifth book in D.D. Barant’s Bloodhound Files. It’ll be released on March 27th. Has anyone read these books? I have been eying the first one and am curious to hear more about it. Is there a romance in it? Is there a love triangle? Is the book as light as the first cover seems to imply? (I say that because it seems cartoonish to me)

That Boyfriend from Hell cover makes me think of Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You know, the Faith that had sex with Xander and then tried to choke him to death? Good times.
Oh, good one. I remember that episode. Faith was awesome, but she could be pretty scary!
I love The Bloodhound Files series, and I’m really looking forward to Back from the Undead. The books are fairly light, mostly action and oddball humor, but with some pretty heavy themes mixed in.
There’s only a teensy, tiny bit of romance in the first three books – barely enough to call it a subplot – but the romance develops a lot more in book four with the possibility of a love triangle in future installments (maybe?).
Basically, this isn’t a series that I read for the romance – the awesome worldbuilding, plot, characters, and humor are more than enough to keep me hooked.

I don’t know. I was wondering that too. The cover makes me think more of the girlfriend from hell. She’s probably carrying the crowbar because she just finished busting up the lights on his car because he didn’t love her enough.

I like most of the covers-excluding “Boyfriend From Hell”. Is it just me or does the cover model look a lot like Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana? O__o

I’m glad to be back into the swing of things with the cover posts. I’m glad to hear that this is still one of your favorite features! I’m not getting the Miley vibe, but I think we’re all in agreement that something’s not right. The cover is striking, but it’s an odd kind of striking.
I just finished reading the first in the DD Barant series. It was good, with an interesting twist, but not exceptional. There’s no real romance to speak of. I suspect (I may be wrong) that the author is a man, because my biggest hangup with the book was that the main character, who is deliciously snarky, reads very much like a male character with boobs. Every male in the book is attracted to her (because she’s so ridiculously hot), but she has no thought process about them in return. Very casual about (fade to black) sex but zero emotional reaction to. That bit was weird, a few plot holes, but overall a lot of fun.
Kindling the Moon is great, very fun, definitely on the lighter side of UF. I was surprised how much I liked the characters in spite of the fact I say the plot twist coming from page 1.
I’m probably the only person who hates the Kevin Hearne series, but man, oh man, do I hate those books. I read the first two, trying to give it a chance since everyone praises them, but there is so much telling vs. showing, a hardcore Marty-Stu who is never in danger whatsoever, and huge amounts of misogyny. I just can’t. Gorgeous covers, but.. No. Just no.
I’m glad to see Jess Haines finally got a decent cover! It was like she won the anti-lottery of covers at first, but I’m glad she had a fan base to sustain her until this point. I think Jamie Quaid is unfortunately taking over the worst cover title. That cover screams ‘not marketed to women’ to me. Man-titty is bad enough, but there’s no way I would read that book in public. Maybe e-book if the reviews are good…
Hmm, I see what you mean about the D.D. Barant series. That does seem a little odd. I suppose it still could be written by a women, but if it doesn’t really focus on the emotion then I would have to say that it reads as wildly different from most other female authors, even outside of the Romance genre.
Really? I’m not a fan of telling so now I’m a bit worried about what I’ll think of the Hearne books. I’m curious to see what side of the coin I fall on.
Haines’s covers were pretty bad. I’m glad she finally scored a decent one.
I think Hearne’s books just happened to hit everyone of my triggers. Most people love them, especially because they’re humourous. The humour just didn’t happen to work for me (it rarely does, I don’t have a good sense of humour), so there was no charm in the books for me to gloss over the annoying parts. If the humour works for you, you might really like them.
I understand exactly what you mean. Enjoying the humor of a book can help smooth out all those rough edges as you read.
