A Girl And Her Horse Thing

When Ms. Vixen invites someone over to her place she certainly doesn’t make it easy… She said…

“Write about your top five cowboys books of this year”

I really had to stop and roll my eyes. Why? Because what “sane” red blooded woman can limit herself to only five cowboys books in a year… Heresy!!!

Anyhow I jumped onto GoodReads to have a peek at what I’ve read and then I thought to hell with it, I am just going to tell you what books felt like I was rode hard and put up very wet when I finished reading them…

I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting a real live cowboy YET, but that has never held me back from using my imagination to its fullest potential when it comes to studly men on horses and what they can do to and for me. There has always been this thing about “a girl and her horse”… and it was no different for me even if it was only my imagination.

  • It’s the size thing for one – I love a well built animal, just those long lines that I am able to hold on to in any situation.
  • It’s the position – Legs spread, back straight and get set – canter, trot or gallop if you wish… ride girl ride!!!!
  • It’s the hard rippling muscles between my legs thing – Is there any other feeling like muscling moving in a rhythmic motion between your legs…
  • It’s the sweat thing – I love running my hands over a sweaty body – horse, man, cowboy – semantic, semantic people!!!!
  • Hung - Heaven forbid it’s also the fact that we all hope to meet a man who “is hung like a horse” – nuff said on that one!!!!

Now for the books and this is in no particular order and some of these I have been reading over a couple of years…

Rough Riders  – by Lorelei James

I have read this entire series, but this one is my favourite of the set so far… it has two storyline running through it. One older couple who are at a time and place where they need to make harsh and hard decisions and a younger couple that just literally make the pages burns… I Love this book…

Ranch Series by J.L. Langley

Another series and the first book is one I re-read a lot… I love a take charge man, couple that with a little guy willing to take a chance while going through some angst of is own and it’s like a bush fire set to happen…

Whenever I think of this book it immediately brings on a smutty grin.

Bareback by Chris Owen

This is one of those books where people are on either side of the line on whether they like it or not. I love this book.

Firstly it’s a story that actually takes place over a pretty good amount of time. It’s not one of those books where you are up to two years later after two sentences. Owen shows us the guys living, loving, arguing and making mistakes and choices that are not even to everyone’s liking.  But that is life and it was Jakes and Tor and they were a great pair of guys to meet.

If you follow Ms. Vixen blog you know she recently mentioned the amount of smut that is in this book. As much as I love this book I agree there is A LOT of sex in this one.

Approach with caution.

Studs in Spurs by Cat Johnson

I came upon Cat’s book this year and they are tamer in certain respect compare to the others I mentions, but these are books that just clicked with me.  I loved the writer meeting cowboy plotline, a little alpha male posturing. A TSTL heroine and some rather good horsing around…

Hot, hot smexing as well.

Three book series – Love them…

The Cowboys Series by Leigh Greenwood

This Cowboy series is probably one of the longest one I have followed in this genre. This authors has a very unique style and I like that she brings something fresh to most of her books. There is a little something in all the books for everyone. There is no love, love, love about them, they are just good. They hit the spot, the characters are unforgettable and there’s a lot of them out already – so it was fun to move on to the next book without waiting ages for the next book to be written..

In Closing

These are some of the cowboy books that make me long for a cowboy all of my own.  What cowboy books are rocking your boat at the moment or which upcoming book are you jonesing for now?

As for “a girl and her horse” thing, do you have anything else to add to my list?

Thank you for the wonderful guest post E.H.  I have to admit though, that my motives for asking you to talk about your favorite cowboy reads is purely selfish.  *off to shop for hot cowboys*—FV

  10. What a great post and fabulous choices. I of course worship at the feet of the Rough Riders but am so happy to see The Tin Star mentioned. I loved the follow up to that one – The Broken H. The character Chief is one of my faves! *swoon*

  12. Ok you two, I've added Tin Star to my TBR. I've read JL Langley in the past and was too excited but they were novella's, I was new to m/m and not all that excited about cowboys. Boy have things changed. I'm ready to try again! :)

You wont regret it – one of the main thing that I love about Langely's style is that she brings a sense of fun despite everything that is happening in her characters world…

I didn't like the first book I read by her either, but I have since become a big fan….

Have you read T. A. Chase's Home series? I think the first one is No Going Home? Mmmm …. Les and Randy. Love that one too.

And yes – the Chief with that long hair and those glasses! Too much! Love!!

Do you see at the begining of my post where I said FV was mad to ask me for only five books…

**shakes fist at FV — Damn you***

Les and Randy are perfect…. I thought the first two books in the series were stunners, the last one was just along for the ride, but Les and Randy ROCKED, no matter which book they popped up in… !!!!

  20. That's an awesome 'girl and her horse' list, EH! Totally spot on ;)

I have to hang my head in shame and admit I haven't read The Tin Star yet. Love JL Langley, especially her Sci-Regency series (yum!!), but for some mysterious reason, I haven't gotten to her cowboy series yet.

Bound by Love by TA Chase was a hot cowboy book – I will never look at a pair of crossties the same way again ;)

  21. I love western romances and just discovered Greenwood earlier this year and am loving it. I wasn't sure what to expect from a male romance writer but was pleasantly surprised. When Love Comes (not part of the Cowboy series) is one of favorites – awesome scarred hero.
