Random Friday: Barrons Fever, Revoke My M/M Smut Card And Downside News

We’re back again for another Random Friday post where I sit down at my laptop and talk about whatever pops into my head, usually what I did in the past week and what I discovered in the book blogging community.  So….here we go!!

Fever Series Read-Along

The girls over at Smexy Books and I have decided that we need to be in tip top reading shape when the much anticipated Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning is released in January.  So, we’re going to start our special Jericho Barrons diet this month and train hard for the big event and we’d like you do it with us.  We will be re-reading the entire series and then every few weeks we’ll be posting a discussion outlining key points and then opening up the comments section for those who want to participate.  We hope you’ll join us since there is surely enough Jericho Barrons to go around right?  Here is the schedule:

  • Darkfever Discussion – November 18th
  • Bloodfever Discussion – December 9th
  • Faefever Discussion – December 23rd
  • Dreamfever Discussion – January 13th

NetGalley has made it easier for Kindle owners to download and read galleys.  Here’s what they say:

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve made some enhancements to our Kindle reading option in NetGalley.

Title name now appears as actual title.
Many readers noticed that when galleys were sent to their Kindle device from NetGalley, the title name would appear as a set of numbers. But I’m happy to report that now galleys will appear on your Kindle with the actual title name.

Free Kindle email address now accepted.
Some of our Kindle-savvy members noticed that they had a free version of their Kindle email address () in their Amazon account. But the NetGalley Profile, where you enter your Kindle email address, did not accept this free version. That’s no longer the case! Now, NetGalley members can enter their email address in their Profile.

For more info on these enhancements for the Kindle, including how the free Kindle email address works, and more about Amazon’s fee and Kindle apps, please see our New Features for Readers page here.

Stacia Kane has some exciting news for the Downside Army.  She will have a new Downside story in the August 2, 2011 anthology HOME IMPROVEMENT: UNDEAD EDITION .  Just tell me this.  Do we get more Terrible?  Do we?

Have you heard of LostBookSales.com?  It’s a project sponsored by Dear Author where you can post information about books you wanted to purchase but couldn’t due to geographical restrictions, pricing, availability etc.  Maybe the pub’s will take note and make sure ALL consumers can get the books they want.

While I was poking around over there I noticed a recourse section and came across a link for Backlist E-Books.  They list places you can find out of print books in ebook format.  Looks like they are just getting started but it might become a great resource for some.

I have a confession and I’m going to trust you, my bloggy friends to hear me out.  A few months ago FV reviewer Samantha recommended Bareback by Chris Owens to me.  I like a good m/m romance now and then and when I heard hot cowboys were involved I promptly hit Amazon and utilized my one click purchasing option.  <—the death of my bank account.  Besides, who can resist a cowboy named Tornado?

So I finally got around to digging in and I’m about half way through the book.  (Here comes the confession, brace yourselves)  I’m sick of the sex.  There, I said it.  *sobs*  Yeah I know. But there is not five minutes that go by where these cowboys are not knockin’ boots, man!  I can’t believe I’m starting to skim the hot cowboy lovin’.  Someone please revoke my m/m smut card, I don’t deserve it.  *hangs head*  I’m enjoying the book, but dudes, eat a sandwich, without going down on each other.  Bale some hay without turning it into a hump session.  LOL.  Really though, if you’re in the mood for a really smutty cowboy on cowboy book, Bareback is for you.

And finally I leave you with this:

Last week I told you about my horrific incident with Ugly Llama.  It turns out there is actually an entry for Ugly Llama in the Urban Dictionary.

Ugly Llama

The opposite of a Sexy Llama: An ugly, stupid person.

Oh my God! He’s such an Ugly Llama.

Heh, who knew?  While my ‘incident’ with the Ugly Llama was traumatic, I think I’m becoming attached to these odd, and scary looking beasts.  So ladies and gentlemen, I give you this weeks UGLY LLAMA:

I also found this, and it’s totally going in my sidebar when I have a chance:

Ok, that’s it for me folks.  Have a great weekend, enjoy your friends and family and don’t get into trouble.  Ok, if you must get into trouble, please don’t call me for bail money ok?

Love–FV

HAHAHAHA!! Awesome post this week FV! I am shocked at the amount of Cowboy lovin. Eat a sandwich, bale some hay had me laughing so crazy that my kids stopped eating their breakfast to stare at me. I'm used to being stared at in this family. You ladies have me cracking up all the time. :D

"I’m enjoying the book, but dudes, eat a sandwich, without going down on each other. Bale some hay without turning it into a hump session." LMAO!!! Yes, there is such a thing as too much sex in a book. You are not alone in that thinking… So hang your head up high. This doesn't mean you don't like smut, it simply means you don't like pointless smut!
    Happy Weekend Sophia! Great post!

Bells–Serious amounts of yee-haw sex happening. When I realized I was skimming I had to have my hubby check for fever!

Leontine–I know, I know!! *shameface* Forgive me? Please?

Julie–It's m/m sexin! I didn't think there could be too much…I was wrong. LOL

OMG Patti, you're right, he does. I'm totally naming him that!

Kate–Despite my scary incident, I'm am feeling the love of the llama. I declare this blog a llama friendly zone.

LMAO-Poor Sophia. I got like that when I read like 8 m/m's in a row.
It was get up-sex-eat-sex-shower-sex-bathroom break-sex(that grossed me out a little)-pull on pants-sex-walk to car-sex-and so on.

That is one ugly llama. Alpacas are nice. We saw them at a petting zoo and they just like to be petted. No kisses or spitting.

    BARRONS!!!!! wooohoooo

Yay NetGalley update. It has been driving me nuts to not have a title when I get a book from them on my Kindle. Is that a silly thing to let annoy you?

    Tori–YES, eat-sex-blow your nose-sex-mow the lawn-sex-gas up the car-sex. Ok already! LOL

Stephanie–Yes that bothered me too. I need titles to keep track of what on there. Not such a little thing. Plus I'm glad they're finally allowing us to use the free email address. Go NetGalley!!

Ruh roh! I steered you wrong on that one I guess…LOL – but I have a confession of my own – the last two weeks I have been feeling the same way on some of my M/M reads. What is happening to us??

Samantha–NO! You didn't steer me wrong. I'm enjoying the book. But I'm skimming the sex scenes for now. I never thought it would happen to me, but it has. LOL. Tor and Jake are sex machines! :)

It's okay. You can keep your smut card. It happens to all of us every now and then. Sad, yes, but true. Though if the skimming continues past this book, then we'll have to have a serious discussion about your smut card. ;)

Bareback's on my list of 'I really need to read it' books. I've heard it's got lots of boot knockin' in it, so I'm waiting until I'm in the mood for some serious cowboy-on-cowboy smexin' to read it.

I swear, it's the buck-teeth that make the ugly llamas so cute :)

OMG…your ugly llamas. You need to give us one every week!!! I am horrified, but oddly intrigued. I also need to get my street talk on and call someone an ugly llama. Maybe I will try it out on the hubs.

I skimmed that sex too…you can keep your m/m card…there is just too much sexin' in that book..and then it gets really depressing and you want the sex to come back. Torture.

I am so freaking glad NetGalley is going to send the name of the book instead of those darn #'s! Yay!

I'm planning to grab this opportunity to jump on the Barrons band wagon! Especially since I'm going to New York around new year's eve and Leontine already asked me to hunt for the new KMM for her. :)

Grin, too much smexing, really? It doesn't happen to me very often, but it does happen occasionally though. Some heroes don't need any recovery time at all, how realistic is that, huh?

Thanks for the helpfull links for us, geographical restricted peeps.

    Have a fabulous weekend!

Ava–Yes, there is lots of book knockin' going on in this book, no doubt about it. I'm counting on my m/m loving buddies to get me though this tough time. :)

Mandi–The llamas stay. This blog is off officially a llama friendly zone. *nods*

Yay Janna, welcome to the world of Barrons! :)

    Qwill–Loved the vid!! Thanks!

LMAO when I think of Bareback I think Daisy Chain. Ownes can put in a LOT of sex scenes which can get repetitive. I remember reading Bareback when I was in a highly emotional state and I cried big fat tears towards the end because of 'you know what'. I still haven't forgiven Tor.

    I love Bareback….

Love it…… but I get you about the smut, it does get long winded…

You can probably snip the end of your card, if feeling persist just cut card in two…

That should take care of the matter…
