Lilli Feisty

Short & Sweet Review: Wasteland – The Whore by Lilli Feisty

Wasteland: The Whore by Lilli Feisty  eBook: Novella Publisher: Samhain Available: May 11, 2010 Genre: Fantasy, Erotic Romance Source: Purchased by reviewer

Her quest for freedom plunges her into dangerous waters…of desire.

Wasteland, Book 3

Bryn is a “Rose”, but her life is no garden. A stolen child, prostitution is the only life she’s ever known—except on the nights she sneaks out in stolen men’s clothing to explore the city. A tiny taste of freedom that makes her long for a life outside sexual servitude, at the mercy of any man who can pay.

Xander remembers no other home except his pirate ship, smuggling weapons or anything else for a fee. He’s been happy with his life and his lover, Hawke…until he rescues who he thinks is a young man from robbers.

Figuring she can blend in with the crew, Bryn jumps at the chance to escape the Brothel. Then she discovers Xander and Hawke have a taste for pretty boys—and that she has a taste for them. In their arms, she embraces their incredible gift: control of her own sexuality.

Though women are considered bad luck at sea, Xander isn’t of a mind to give her up. Yet the time is drawing near when the ship must return to Wasteland to resupply. And what awaits them there is a danger that could tear them apart.

Quick Rundown: Wasteland is set in a futuristic, post apocalyptic world where Bryn, a Rose, should consider herself fortunate to have have food, shelter and protection.  Although prostitution is all she has ever known she longs to be in control of her life as well as her sexuality.  When she is rescued by two pirates and given the chance at a different and unknown future she takes it.  In her adventures she discovers a chance to make her dreams of self empowerment come true and then some.

Impressions after the first chapter:  Yo, Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.  This is completely different from anything I’ve read from Lilli Feisty.  I’ve actually only read her contemporary erotic romances so this is an interesting change.

The Hero: There are two heroes in The Whore.  Xander, a dirty sexy pirate with a soft side who is actually a good guy.  His lover Hawke, was not particularly interesting to me.  I didn’t necessarily dislike him, but he was not a stand out character for me.  Xander was the pirate for me.

The Heroine: Bryn, appears to be a victim of her life’s circumstances forced to work as a whore in a brothel.  She is brave, spirited, yet reserved and longs for independence and self empowerment.  The courage that it took for her to leave the brothel where she is used, but protected, in search of a different life was admirable, especially since she was facing the unknown.

What worked: The post apocalyptic world in which the story is based is a dark, dangerous place in which women are mostly powerless. Lilli Feisty did a wonderful job giving the reader a good clear feel for the despair and inner turmoil of the heroine and the overall feel of the dangerous world this novella is based in.

What didn’t work:  Although the sex scenes are very steamy, consisting of m/m, m/f/m and voyeurism, I never fully bought into the idea that Bryn immersed herself into a fulfilling sexual relationship with Xander and Hawke so quickly.  Granted this is a novella, and I often find that relationships are rushed probably due to limited word count, but Bryn was rescued, and on the ship only a very short amount of time before she was engaged in a threesome with Xander and Hawke.  After living a life of sexual servitude, I would have thought she’d need a little more time before entering into an intimate relationship since that was the way of life she was trying to leave behind.

Final conclusion: This type of sci-fi erotic fantasy is not my usual choice of genre, however I very much enjoyed this quick read.  I think overall it was a nicely rounded story, laced with a bit sexy pirate romance, and a heroine that I came to like very much.  What I love about Lilli Feisty’s writing is her attention to character development in her heroines. I always come away from reading her stories feeling like I know her heroines well. Although I didn’t understand Bryn’s need to enter into a sexual relationship with Xander and Hawke so quickly, I still feel like I got to know her and like her very much. I enjoyed this erotic sci-fi fantasy, however I think I prefer Ms. Feisty’s erotic contemporaries.  Still, it was fun to try something different than what I’m used to from a favorite author.

Favorite Quote:

“If you didn’t just save my sister…I’d throttle you.”

Bryn managed a smile.  “But I did.  So you can’t.”

Interview and Giveaway With Lilli Feisty

LilliFeisty1

I’m very excited to be talking with Lilli Feisty, author of two of my favorite erotic romance novels, Bound To Please and Dare To Surrender.

In both Bound To Please and Dare To Surrender Lilli Feisty delivers moving romances that give the reader a glimpse into the world of loving BDSM relationships.  She offers insight on the psychological reasons couples might engage in Dom/sub relationships, while keeping it sexy and romantic with characters that are well rounded and authentic.

FV: Lilli Feisty is a fabulous name for an erotic romance writer. Is that your given name? Or a name you gave yourself?

LF: Ha, no it’s not my real name. I think I was drinking wine one night and picked a name when I signed up on Romance Divas. I really didn’t plan on using it for publication, but by the time I got published everyone was calling me Feisty and refused to let me change it. At conference, I actually answer to Feisty and think it’s strange when someone calls me Lilli.   (FV: My book blogging friends and I call you Feisty as well *g*)

FV: Tell me about your writing process. Are you painfully organized and linear, free spirited and wild, or somewhere in between?

LF: Um, well, I’m painfully something, and I guess that would have to be free and wild! I basically just start writing. Usually I have a black moment in mind, and write up to that. I sell on proposal, but my final version usually goes off track a bit. But overall, no. I’m not organized at all! In any aspect of my life, ha. I’m kind of like Joy that way.

FeistyWOW FV: The gentlemen in your novels, are they based on the gentlemen in your life?

LF: Can I take the fifth? I will say Mark (from Bound to Please) is based on a five-minute encounter I had with a fairly well-known musician. I was talking to him and the story just unfolded in my mind. And no, it wasn’t that kind of encounter! If it were, I would hope it would be more than five minutes… Sadly, there aren’t a lot of gentlemen in my life so I have to make them up. :) (FV: Exhibit A: The evidence says otherwise Ms. Feisty)

FV: In Bound To Please and Dare to Surrender you have minor characters that are gay.  Have you, or will be writing an erotic romance where the main characters are involved in a gay relationship?

LF: I would love to. I’ve written bisexual men, like in my Spice Brief, Taken. I almost always include a bit of same-sex encounters in my books. And I’m writing about a bunch of bisexual pirates for a novel for Samhain. Personally, I’m not a big fan of m/m but I love lesbian erotica and I’d love to write a lesbian erotic romance. Unfortunately, that’s a slow market, so I don’t know if I’ll be writing it anytime soon. However, at some point I’m going to write a short story for Yvette and put it up as a free read on my website. I adore Yvette! A bit of trivia: she gets it on with the cute waitress from Savor during the party. But that’s not in the book. :)

FV: In Bound To Please, Mark steals Ruby’s jasmine scented soap and later uses it to masturbate with. In erotic romance, that’s hot.  In real life maybe a little creepy?  What do you think?

LF: LOL. Well, I’m very much a scent person. I’m the kind of person who will smell someone’s t-shirt when they’re not around. If someone stole my soap, I don’t think I’d be creeped out, but I suppose it would depend on the person. Honestly, I think it’s just hot to think about Mark masturbating. :) Ha ha. <— (FV: I wholeheartedly agree)

FV: Who is your favorite character from your novels?

LF: Honestly, probably Lacy from I love Lacy. It’s a short romantic comedy, but I loved the heroine. She’s very much like a character from a 30’s screwball comedy, and I had a blast writing her. Incidentally, that’s the book with my infamous line, “she made him hornier than a breadbox.”  (FV: I have no idea what that means but I’m putting this on my to-read list NOW)

FV: If you were going to spend a month on an island alone with Lacey from, I Love Lacy, and you could only take 3 things with you, what would you take?

LF: Lacy? Ha ha. I’d have to say my iPod, my vibrator, and lots of books.

FV: What is your favorite line (from your novels of course)?

LF: “She made him hornier than a bread-box.” :)   I also like the line from the book I’m currently writing: “Out of all the women in all the world, he had to go and spread chocolate sauce on this one.”

FV: How did you get started writing in the Erotic Romance genre?

LF: When I started writing romance, the erotic genre was booming. It was natural for me to start writing really hot books, and so I just did. I also really love the psychological aspects of sex, and enjoy exploring that in my writing.

FV: What do you do when you’re not writing?

LF: Procrastinate. :)   Listen to music. Watch YouTube videos. Play with my son. Hang out with friends. I also love to cook and I try to find time to read.

FV: Who is your favorite author?smutkateers

LF: Um, wow. Hard question. I like a lot of classics authors, such as Steinbeck, Jane Austen, and Dorothy Parker. I also LOVE Chuck Palahniuk. And of course, that’s not even covering my favorite romance authors. I love all my talented Smutketeers, and I’m not just saying that because they’re also my best friends. I also am a huge fan of Kresley Cole, J.R. Ward and Larissa Ione. I love paranormals, reading them is a real treat for me.

FV: What was the last book you read?

LF: I’m currently reading the latest J.R. Ward book and loving it! Next up I have a book of Larissa’s; I’m saving it like a piece of delicious chocolate.

FV: I noticed from your photo on your blog that you have tattoos. Do you have favorite and if so is there a story behind it?

LF: I would have to say my sugar skull on my arm is my favorite tattoo. I’m a bit fascinated by life after death (one of my favorite TV shows was Dead Like Me), and I love the idea of celebrating deceased loved ones. So the work on my arm is kind of a Dia de los Muertos commemorative piece for my deceased mother. Her birthday happens to fall on Dia de los Muertos, and so my artist included November 2nd in the piece. It’s not complete yet, but you can see a picture of it here.

FV: What’s next for you?

LF: I’m writing a book about a bad-boy chef from LA who is forced to take a job in the middle of nowhere, Northern California. It is really a fun book to write! Lots of food sex, and, as I think you may have noticed, I like writing about food. :)

And finally, real quick without thinking:

Tom or Jerry? Tom?

Red or Black? Black.

Vampire or Werewolf? Vampire!

Christmas or Halloween? Halloween!

Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks? Um…

Fantasy or Reality? Fantasy.

Call or Text? Text

N*sync or Backstreet Boys? Beastie Boys. :)

Elmo or Ernie? Elmo

Roses or Lillies? Roses

Mark or Ash? Both. At once. :) (FV: Me too!)

Thank you so much for being here today Lilli, it’s been fun getting to know a bit about you.

He meets his match. She meets her master.

Art gallery curator Joy Montgomery has never liked her body’s generous curves. And she’s always been too shy to explore her wild side. But tonight, everything is going to change . . .

Desperate to save her job, Joy approaches bad-boy artist Ash Hunter and asks him to exhibit his erotic work at her gallery. Ash agrees on one condition: Joy must pose as his model. But business soon turns to pleasure, as Joy experiences a passion beyond her wildest imaginings and Ash finds more than just inspiration in his voluptuous new muse.

Joy Montgomery is on thin ice with her job as an art gallery curator.  She must find a cutting edge artist to feature in her gallery soon or she may be looking for new employment.  Determined to save her job she seeks out erotic photography artist Ash Hunter to convince him to do a show, but finds that he is no longer interested in displaying his art.  Convinced that Ash and his cutting edge style will be just the thing that will save her job she sets out to convince him.  While Joy’s main focus is on saving her job, she can’t deny that she is intrigued and attracted to Ash. When she gets a look at a collection of Ash’s erotic sculptures, she finds herself both captivated and aroused.  Disappointed that Ash is not interested in displaying his art, she has a moment of impulsiveness and steals one of the small marble sculptures.  She immediately realizes she is out of her mind and tries to figure out how to return the sculpture without getting caught.

Ash and Joy are polar opposites.  Joy’s life is happily chaotic.  She’s messy, disorganized, and maybe just a little irresponsible.  She’s also a insecure with her curvy physique and unlucky the love department.   Ash on the hand is a neat freak, and totally organized.  He is and ex-Navy Seal and quite orderly in his lifestyle.  He likes to combine his two favorites hobbies, BDSM and photography with stunning results.  However his physical appearance is more what you’d expect from an artist.  He’s a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, disheveled hair and he might forget to shave now and then when he’s engrossed in a project.

Ash and Joy meet at his apartment to discuss business the next night, but Ash has other things on his mind.  Although he’s already attracted to her, Joy’s response to his art inspires fantasies erotic bondage and he wastes no time in seducing her.  Business takes a backseat as Joy finds herself bound and she surrenders her control to Ash leading to an erotic night of love making.  For Joy, this is an impulsive act, true to her character, and for Ash, it’s deliberate and controlled, true to his dominate nature.  The two find an immediate connection as opposites attract and begin an interesting relationship that becomes complicated by Joy’s uncharacteristic moment of thievery.

The sexual chemistry between Ash and Joy burns up the pages.  These two find themselves participating in a sexual relationship that involves binding from the first time they are together.  Ash’s dominate nature appeals to Joy, making her feel safe and she allows herself to submit to Ash’s very sexy will.  Ash finds Joy’s willingness to surrender herself irresistible and sexy.

“The beauty of being restrained was giving up control, giving up self-consciousness, giving up everything.

Giving Ash everything.”

I found Joy’s quirky personality charming and Ash’s gentle dominance both sexy and alluring.  Lilli Feisty tells a romantic story a of slightly insecure woman who finds the courage to release her inhibitions and accept herself by learning to trust through powerful submission.

Dare To Surrender is an erotic love story that will keep you turning the pages. If you love a sexy read, with very light erotic BDSM, laced with love and romance you will enjoy Dare To Surrender.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for a fun interview with Lilli Feisty (they don’t call her Feisty for nothing!) and a giveaway.

I don’t know if you all remember or not, but I read Bound To Please by Lilli Feisty a while back and loved it.  I told everyone I knew about it.  It came as a complete surprise to me because before I read Bound To Please I had never had any interest whatsoever in reading BDSM erotica.  I really enjoyed it though and I’m eagerly awaiting the follow up novel Dare To Surrender.  February cannot get here quick enough.

Bound To Please

Bound to Please by Lilli Feisty Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages ISBN-13: 978-0446541923

FROM FANTASY TO ECSTASY

Ruby Scott is a beautiful, quiet event planner who leads an oh-so-respectable life. Yet the things that go on in her secret fantasies are anything but. She has every intention of keeping her hidden desires under wraps-until she meets a gorgeous, hard-muscled man ten years her junior. Mark St. Crow is a gifted, up-and-coming musician who collects erotic art and loves to "play" women as much as his piano. After one night of uninhibited passion, Ruby realizes there’s no turning back. But as she surrenders to her deepest needs and lets Mark control every forbidden thrill, her passion for him builds. Can the wild, intoxicating nights they share lead to a love that will last forever?

I won this book on a blog a while back and I put it on my TBR pile and moved on because frankly, BDSM is not my usual cup of erotica.  Floggers, whips and ball gags just don’t spell sexy in my world. However, I needed something to read while waiting for my Kindle and a box load of sexy Lords Of The Underworld to be delivered so I decided to give Bound to Please a whirl and I was pleasantly surprised.  Mark and Ruby had me at hello.

Still recovering from a break up with her erotic photographer boyfriend, Ruby Scott meets a sexy rock star on the verge of hitting it big, Mark St. Crow.  Mark is instantly attracted to Ruby and he recognizes her tattoo from some erotic art he recently purchased.  Ruby feels betrayed because the photos she posed for, for her ex-boyfriend were never meant to be sold and she thinks that Mark is only interested in her because of what he thinks the photos might imply about her.  However Ruby is also attracted to Mark and after an impromptu semi-public, scorching hot make out session, Mark invites Ruby to his show later that evening and the fun and games begin.

I especially loved Ruby’s character.  In her late thirties, she is beautiful, independent and focused on her career.  When presented with an opportunity to realize her most secret fantasies with an attractive younger man, she embraces her sexuality and  goes for it without becoming needy and expecting more from what started out to be a casual encounter.

Mark is a super sexy, leather wearing musician who is making the most of his rock star lifestyle.  He can have most any woman he wants but soon comes to realize he may have met his match in Ruby.  He finds he has feelings for her beyond their sexual relationship even though Ruby tries to keep some emotional distance between them.

While I’m not a usually a fan of the BDSM scene I found the love scenes between Mark and Ruby to be amazingly erotic and irresistible.  I looked forward to each and every encounter and I admit I had a hard time reading this book in the company of others as I  actually blushed many times throughout. Not only was the lovin’ hot but the romance was sweet and believable and I was pulling for Mark and Ruby to find their way to a happily ever after ending right from the beginning.

On a side note, after reading this book, I may never look at a strawberry as an innocent little berry again. That’s all I’m sayin’, read the book if you want to know.

Check out Leontine’s review here, she has a bit more insight on the D/s relationship.
