Reading Roundup-November 2010

Reading Round Up

Goodbye November, it was fun.  It really was.  :)  I hope everyone had a great month and my fellow Americans enjoyed their Thanksgiving.  I cooked a turkey with all the trimmings and my family is still alive to talk about it.

It was kind of a weird reading month for me.  Looking back it was an ok month but I guess because I’ve been so busy with all kinds of crazy stuff, I didn’t focus that much on the TBR pile.

Here are the stats for my November reading roundup:

  • 2 – 5 heart ratings
  • 5 – 4 heart ratings
  • 2 – 3.5 heart rating
  • 1 – 3 heart ratings
  • 1 – 2.5 heart rating
  • 1 – 2 heart rating

Never Have I Ever  by Alisha Rai:  3.5 hearts
I liked this one, very hot and steamy.  Just a problem or two that bothered me, I’ll talk about it in an upcoming review.

The Spurned Viscountess by Shelley Munro:  3.5 hearts
I enjoyed this one but I think had potential to be even better than it was.  I  felt the pacing was a little slow at times but I liked the mystery and the setting was great.  Review to come.

Angels’ Blood  by Nalini Singh:  4 hearts
I was hesitant to read this series since Angels don’t always work for me. I did’t warm up to the heroine right  away but I eventually settled in and was eager for the next book.

Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh:  5 hearts
Oh wow, I loved this book.  I loved that the hero and heroine are so in love and they don’t fight it. Nalini Singh writes some of the sexiest love scenes ever!

A Scarlet Past  by  Evanne Lorraine:  1 heart
This a was a miss for me.  Not a lot happened, lacked setting and the love scenes lacked passion and emotional connection.  Review to come.

The Princess in His Bed by Lila DiPasqua:  4 hearts
This is the second book by Lila DiPasqua, an anthology of three fairy tales retold.  Very sexy, and a lot of fun to read. Looking forward to more from this author.  Keep an eye out for a big holiday giveaway from Berkley on the blog in a few days. :)

Forever In Lingerie by Gina Gordon:  2 hearts
When it comes to erotic romance we all have our limits on how far we’re willing to go and certain practices and terms that don’t work.  It’s just a matter of preference.  That was the main problem I had with this book.  Just not for me.

Cowgirls Don’t Cry by Lorelei James:  4 hearts
This is book ten in this series and I wondered if I was going to get tired of these cowboys.  Oh.Hell.No.

Lipstick on His Collar by Inez Kelley:  4 hearts
I worried when I first started this book, wasn’t sure I liked where it was going.  But I really like this author and should have known she wouldn’t let me down.  A fun, sexy romance.  Review to come.

Mockingjay by  Suzanne Collins:  3 hearts
It’s hard to say why I didn’t like the final book in this trilogy as much as I liked it’s predecessors.  Perhaps the pre-release hype affected my expectations?  I’m not sure.  I enjoyed this book, full of action and this was one of the best YA series I’ve read, but I felt this final book didn’t live up to the first two in the series.

Firewalker by Allyson James: 4 hearts
This is the second book in this series and I will be continuing to read as new books are released.  The characters are fresh, great action, interesting magic, plus there is a bisexual magic mirror. :)

Alpha by Rachel Vincent: 5 hearts
Le sigh.  Last book in the series and I’m happy with how all the loose ends wrapped up.  I wanted an epilogue but other than that, I was happy.

Bloodfever  Karen Marie Moning  (currently reading)
Re-reading for the Fever Series read-along

Mine Till Midnight  Lisa Kleypas  (currently reading)
My first Lisa Kleypas ever.  I’m listening to this on audio.  I love historicals on audio, the accents are gorgeous.

That was my month in books.  How does your list compare?  Anything I need to add to the TBR?

A lot of people loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire but were disappointed with Mockingjay. I’ve heard that it didn’t live up to expectations. I can’t wait to read the series to find out for myself!

I can’t wait to start Bloodfever!!

Woot to Archangel’s Kiss. Love that book. And I want to read Lipstick on his Collar. I really likes Inez’s voice in the other books that I’ve read by her and am quite curious about her new one. Very nice list!

BookVixen–I really enjoyed the series as a whole and I just wonder if I was let down by Mockingjay because of the pre-release hype. It was a good book, but i think I liked the first two better.

You must must must read Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas! Yes – it a 3 “muster”. The character of Jack Devlin is one of the most divine ever!! In fact let me just lay it on the line for you right here:
    1 – V
    2 – Brody Brown
    3 – Jack Devlin

I know! Pretty hard to believe for me to even believe considering it’s mainstream historical and WE know I love my smut as smutty as it can get. But he is just so delicious. Damn – it’s been a few months since I read Suddenly You – gonna have to squeeze in a re-read.
