Welcome To The Faefever Discussion!

Faefever by Karen Marie Moning
Welcome to the Faefever Discussion, the third book in Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. In Faefever, things get very serious and we learn a ton of interesting information throughout the book.  Mac and Barrons get closer to The Book (Sinsar Dubh) than ever before, we learn Fae history, and Mac faces the biggest test of her spirit yet.  The odd relationship and sexual tension between Mac and Barrons continues to build as they carry on with their search for The Book and in their effort to ensure the walls between Faery and our world do not come down.

This is book three in the series and we have done a little speculating as to possible clues to events that occur in the fourth book, Dreamfever. But we have done our best not to spoil those that have not read beyond this book. We’ll try to keep that in mind during discussion as well.

Please note that this discussion is meant for those that have read up to at least book three in the series.  If you have not read Faefever yet you will be spoiled.  If you missed out on the first two discussions you can read them here: Darkfever and Bloodfever.

Note: Direct quotes from the book are in italics.

Lets get started:

Sinsar Dubh – aka “The Book” Facts
But I didn’t tell him the three faces the Book had presented, or the severity of the crimes, or that it was killing the carrier before it moved on. I let him believe it was passing itself off from one live human to the next.

Regarding the book, Mac says – “I can only call it the Beast, and leave it there.” (Foreshadow for Dreamfever end? See ending discussion questions)

It had looked at me, seen me. I couldn’t explain it, but I felt it had somehow marked me, tagged me like a pigeon.

“The Unseelie King was once the King of the Light, the Queen’s consort, and Seelie.”

“The dark ones are the Seelie King’s children” i.e – Unseelie that he created while trying to recreate the ‘song of making’

The King was obsessed with making his concubine a Fae and he began to experiment on lesser Fae to try to recreate the Song of Making.  His concubine was kept in a cage, and he created things to entertain her: The Shifting Silvers, The Amulet and The Box. Eventually, his concubine hated what the King had become and took her own life. The Book was created as an atonement of the King. He poured all of his knowledge in there, in hopes of begging Seelie Queen for forgiveness.  Through the ages it has changed and has become a living thing. The King could not destroy it because it was his equal in evil. Queen Aoibheal is the current Queen – she wants the Book because she thinks “it contains the key to the true Song of Making that has been lost to my race for seven hundred thousand years.”

V’lane reminds Mac – only Queen and Seelie King can touch all the Hallows – he wants them to have The Book. V’lane says the Queen was attacked recently and it left her weak, she is in his realm, trying to recreate the Song.  All the princesses are gone – she sent them to search for the Book–In a matriarchal society this is a disaster.

Toward end of the book, Mac and Barrons get five feet from The Book – it knows her name. Mac says – “The Beast shows us the very worst in ourselves and makes us know it’s true”

Mac feeds Unseelie to Detective Jayne so he can see what is really walking around his city. He then alerts Mac when there is a severe crime scene, so she can track The Book.

Dani tells Mac the book was hidden under the abbey, but about twenty years ago, it vanished. No one knows who took it. It was at this time, Rowena created the PHI (a Dublin Courier service that serves as a cover for the sidhe-seer coalition) to track and try to reclaim the Book. Per the glossary (ie. Mac’s journal) – Mac notes: “The abbey/sidhe-seers have a very wealthy benefactor who funnels funds through multiple corporations. I wonder who it is.”

Fae Facts:
At one time some Seelie could go back in time, although limited (except for the Queen). But they no longer possess that ability. They are currently trapped in the present, unable to sift time.Smaller, less powerful Fae can slip through walls- powerful Fae, because of the way the prison was created, get their power reverberated back to them, so the more powerful they are, the more difficult it is for them to penetrate the walls.

In V’lanes words:  “We have been discussing sidhe-seer wards. The magic your people know and the magic Barrons knows are not the same.” V’lane can’t get through Barron’s wards.

V’lane put his name on Mac’s tongue so she can call him at anytime.

V’lane has at least one of the four stones. In the glossary (aka Mac’s journal) she notes that the stones might not necessarily decipher the Book, but reveal it’s “true nature.” Again – for those that have read Dreamfever – is this foreshadowing for the end of that book? (This along with Mac referring to The Book as The Beast.)

Barrons says to V’lane “Maybe I learned enough from your princess that I don’t need all four.” Sophia speculates: Could V’lane be the one that brought Barron’s to his knees? (Barrons and Mac talked about this in Bloodfever.) Remember when Mac asked Barrons what he did to the one that brought him to his knees and Barrons said he killed his wife. I wonder if Barron’s killed V’lanes wife (princess)?

Mac asks Barrons if V’lane is good or bad – he won’t answer. She asks V’lane if Barrons is human or something else – he won’t answer. They each have something on the other….Mac pushes Barrons as hard as she can toward V’lane and V’lane instantly moves back. Mac says: “The Fae Prince feared Barrons. I tried to process that thought but I’m not sure I succeeded.”

“The ability to sense Fae objects is extremely rare, Mac. The last sidhe-seer with that ability died a long time ago. We’ve not been successful at breeding those bloodlines.”

V’lane says the LM is Fae – but no longer. Formerly a Seelie named Darroc, a trusted member of queen’s high council. He betrayed the queen, secretly working with royal hunters. “Darroc’s special diversion was playing with human women for a long, cruel time, before destroying them.” The Queen took away his immortality and power and sent him to the human realm…but he has found ways to survive. She did NOT strip his knowledge from him.<–big mistake.

Barrons:
Mac sees Barrons coming out of one of his mirror covered in blood and ice and he carried the bloody body of a young woman. Barrons gives no answer for this. He does finally admit to using mirrors and that they are – uncomfortable – for him.
The shadow-demons in the mirror had behaved just like the Shades in the Dark Zone had when he’d walked through it: yielding to his passage, giving him wide berth. The Lord Master himself had taken one look at him recently, and walked away.

Barrons tries to teach Mac to resist Voice. “The key to resisting Voice is finding that place inside you no one else can touch.”

Teacher/Student develop immunity to Voice.

When Barrons thinks Mac betrayed him to V’lane, Barrons uses Voice and Mac tells him EVERYTHING she knows. Then she realizes – Was this it? The source of his rage? Was Barrons jealous? Barrons said he needed to know if she was pri-ya. He also blows up when he finds out she has been seeing Christian.

“This isn’t home, it never will be, and nobody’s getting laid!” I practically shouted.
“You think I don’t know that?” His shifted his body beneath me, making me painfully aware of something. Two somethings, in fact, one of which was how far up my short skirt was. The other wasn’t my problem. I wriggled to shimmy my hem down, but his expression perished the thought. When Barrons looks at me like that, it rattles me. Lust, in those ancient, obsidean eyes, offers no trace of humanity. Doesn’t even bother trying. Savage Mac wants to invite it to come out and play.

Barrons says: “You’ve obviosuly never been raped. Rape isn’t something you walk away from. You crawl.”

“You are allied with me. And they should fear you.” My eyes narrowed. “Why should they fear me?” He smiled faintly. “You have barely begun to understand what you are.”

“What are you?” I said irritably. “In the Serengeti, Ms. Lane, I would be the cheetah. I’m stronger, smarter, faster, and hungrier than everything else out there. And I don’t apologize to the gazelle when I take it down.”

I moistened my lips. His gaze fixed on them. I think I stopped breathing. He jerked so sharply away that his long dark coat sliced air, and turned his back to me. “Was that an invitation, Ms. Lane?” “If it was?” I asked, astonishing myself. What did I think I was doing? “I don’t do hypotheticals. Little girl.”

Mac makes Barrons hold the Seelie Spear (thinking Barrons is Unseelie and wouldn’t be able to touch it) but Barrons does hold it proving he is not Unseelie. BUT – V’lane later tells Mac, the Unseelie King can touch all Hallows.  Could Barrons be the Unseelie King?

“What are you? Why don’t you just tell me and get it over with?”
“One day you’ll stop asking me. I think I’ll like knowing you then.”

“The day I give you answers will be the day you no longer need them.”

Christian:
He can tell if someone is lying. He comes from a clan that once served the Fae.

The Keltars were given the duty of “performing certain rituals to maintain the walls between them. Over the millennia, they performed them faithfully…but in recent years , the rituals stopped going as expected”. Dark magic had risen preventing the tithe from being fully paid. They believe the walls won’t last another incomplete ritual. Still haven’t seen Queen. At last ritual they had to use blood.

Only Seelie used to walk among everyone. Unseelie have been imprisoned for so long. If the walls come down, all castes will escape.

Christian remembers Alina’s boyfriend as Fae – but only caught a fleeting glimpse.

His uncles sent Christian to Dublin to spy on Barrons.  He shows Mac pictures of Barrons which prove he is not aging and is at least over a hundred years old.

Alina Information:
An anonymous person is mailing Mac pages from Alina’s journal.
A page from Alina’s journal – “He calls me his Queen of the Night.” later, “…I wouldn’t just die for him – I’d kill for him, too. Like I did tonight. And when I see her tomorrow.” Were they humans she’d been killing, or Fae? If they were Fae, how had she been killing them? I had the spear. Dani, a courier for Post Haste, Inc., the false front for the organization of sidhe-seers run by the Grand Mistress, Rowena, had the sword.

Alina had gone to Trinity to see if she could get a text translated. This is how she and Christian met.

“Get me the Book, and I’ll get you your sister back.” – LM offers to bring Alina back same as she was before. He says he didn’t kill her – he wasn’t done with her yet. Mac realizes he has never really tried to get her. Later he threatens Mac and tells her if she does not help him he will take the thing she loves the most. Mac wonders what that ‘thing’ is.

From Alina’s journal – “I thought I was hunting the Book, and that would be the end of it. But now I know we’ve got to re-create what once was. We’ve got to find the five foretold by the Haven’s prophecy. The Sinsar Dubh alone isn’t enough. We need the stones and the book and the five.” (The Haven = High Council of sidhe-seers)

The End Of The Book:
Rowena wants D’Jai Orb as a peace offering from Mac but also to help in keeping the walls up on October 31st – Samhain. Later when the orb is opened during the ceremony, Shades come out into the abbey. Rowena says Mac betrayed them and set them up. Mac wonders if Barrons planted the shades in the orb or if they were there when he acquired it.
Mac gets Barrons to agree to help the MacKeltars reinforce the walls on Samhain.

That night – the walls come down. Mac realizes the Unseelie/LM  have been planning this attack. The Rhino boys have been infiltrating their daily jobs.

The Unseelie Princes find Mac that morning. They rape her – she becomes Pri-ya.

Final page: “I grasped with both hands for the succor of touch, tossed a tangle of hair from my eyes, and looked up, straight into the face of the Lord Master. “I think she’ll obey me now,” he murmured. Obey him? I’d die for him.

Two notes from beginning of chapter sixteen that might be important while reading Dreamfever:

  • Hypnagogia, a state during which a person might think herself fully alert, but is actually actively engaged in dreaming. (Mac talks about dreaming etc.)
  • Fictional characters are often Liminal Beings, archetypes that straddle two worlds, marking or guarding thresholds, or are physically divided by two states of existence.  Between-ness is a defining characteristic of liminal.

Also: Mac has always had recurring dream of a beautiful woman dying. Mac feels this intense urge to do anything to save her in the dream. She wonders if this is a memory of her biological mother.

Discussion:
Who is sending Mac pages from Alina’s Journal?

By sending her sidhe-seers after me in force, with orders to subdue me and steal my weapon, she’d said: You are not one of us and the only way you can become one of us is complete subjugation to my will. Give me your weapon, obey me in all things, and I’ll consider letting you into the fold.
Clearly we do not like Rowena, but what do you think is her true motivation?  Who is she really?  Is she evil or just power hungry?  Misguided?

Who were the five? What do you think the Haven’s prophecy is? Mac is 22 years old. The Book disappeared about twenty years ago and it is rumored some of the Haven were killed or disappeared. Was Mac’s mother a member?

Who put the shades in the Orb that were released at the abbey?

Dani photocopies pages from a text on Rowena’s desk. Within these pages contains a story about a boy, charmed into going to Faery where he is locked in a cage to watch horrendous crimes committed by the Fae. (This can be found in Chapter 10, pg 192-195). Do we have theories as to who this boy is locked in the cage?

Mac refers to the Book as “The Beast” many times throughout Faefever. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but this may be very important foreshadowing to events that happen in Dreamfever (when the term “Beast” is used to describe something else).

“Christian remembers Alina’s boyfriend as Fae – but only caught a fleeting glimpse.”  The LM is no longer Fae, so do we think the LM was not actually Alina’s boyfriend?  Was there someone else she was with?  Or was Christian mistaken?  Many possibilities here.

When Mac asks V’lane point blank if Barrons is good or evil, human or other he does not answer.  Why? What secret(s) does Barrons and V’lane share?

Ok, as we all know, this book ended on a very disturbing note.  However, if you read the note at the end of the book from Karen Marie Moning, she assures us there is hope for Mac.  Now, on to Dreamfever which will be discussed at SmexyBooks on January 13th and then we’ll all be ready for the fifth and final book in this amazing series, Shadowfever: release date January 18th.

Comments

  1. Oy vey. This one broke my heart.

  2. No idea who is sending Mac the journal pages – I think Dreamy Eyed Guy is fishy…very fishy.

I don’t trust Rowena – but I also think KMM doesn’t want us to trust her…which means maybe I should…

WHO are the five?? Mac’s mother?? Did Alina know who the five are?

Dude – Mac calling the Book the Beast – and then knowing the end of Dreamfever…THIS MAKES ME INSANE. We will discuss at DF read along.

I want to think Darroc/LM didn’t kill Alina..but that is him at the very end of this book, right? So he is capable of pure evil.

WHAT IS BARRONS? What does he have over V’lane and vice versa. Again – I’M INSANE!! ;)

  3. Bells says:

One of the biggest questions I had with the book was who in the heck was the 4th guy at the end?!! We know the other 3 were Unseelie Princes, but who was the 4th?!!

  4. I hope the 4th wasn’t V’Lane.

  5. I don’t know!!! Another Unseelie Prince?? Someone else?

  6. Bells says:

    @tori aka ggs_closet: I hope it’s not V’Lane either Tori!

@Mandi Schreiner: Smexi, this series is going to make our brains explode!

  7. I had completely forgotten how close Barrons (and Mac) came to touching the book in this one.

AND – how they realize they need the Have five and song of making..not just the four stones to decipher book.

    Brain is MUSH!

  8. Jen D. says:

Before I get to the questions I just want to let you all know that I had a hard time falling asleep last night after finishing this book. That said…on to the speculation:

-At first I thought maybe the LM was sending her the pages but, the more I read the more unsure I was of that guess.

-I think Rowena’s disdain for Mac comes from Mac being so powerful. I think Ro finds it insulting that someone not in the know about who and what she is is capable of the things Mac is capable of. I kind of think she may have been somewhat at fault for losing the book. It’s just a hypothesis though.

-I have no idea who the five could be. I’m at a total loss as to what the prophecy is (although I think it has something to do with Mac). Totally hadn’t thought about Mac’s mother being part of the haven. It’s possible though. It would explain why she sent her daughters away. Especially if they were part of some prophecy.

-Unfortunately my first thought was Barrons. It’s possible that it wasn’t him and it was already rigged when he got it.

-Hadn’t really thought the boy would be someone who plays a role later in the story.

-He may no longer be fae but at one point he was. Her sidhe seer senses kick in when the LM is around even though it’s not a hardcore fae reading.

-I think it benefits both of them to keep eachothers secrets even if they hate eachother. They both need Mac and I think if their truths come to light it’ll push her away from both of them.

-That ending completely screwed with my head. The poor thing has held out this long only to be enthralled by Unseelie princes for the LM. That sucks balls. I’m going to be traumatized by this for a while.

  9. Bells says:

@Mandi Schreiner: OMG I loved it when Barrons was about to touch the book and Mac called out “Jericho!” He stopped and listened to her. *sigh*

  10. Jen – I like that theory about Rowena – I really think she is on the “good” side – but yeah – feels threatened.

Everyone has secrets – Rowena, Barrons, V’Lane, Christian, – so I think everyone feels threatened by everyone else.

The ending is dark – BUT I think it had to happen..and I feel like it is addressed quite well in Dreamfever.

ONE think I wanted to mention and forgot:

Darroc tells Mac he can bring back Alina – alive – if she helps him. IS HE TELLING THE TRUTH?????

  11. Jen D. says:

I was under the impression that the 4th douche in the room was the LM.

  12. Bells – JERICHO!!!

    Le sigh.

You know what quote is coming up in the next book that I sob every time I read it – rainbow…..

    *sniffle*

  13. @Jen

The fourth guy has sex with her too (right?)

I was under the impression LM does not have sex with her – he is just “supervising”

But – it is not clear……..And I honestly can’t remember if we find out in the next book..I don’t think we do.

  14. Jen D. says:

Mandi – It’s the only theory I could come up with without making her into a villain.

Everyone has HUGE secrets. It’s driving me up the wall. I feel like no one can be trusted. I’d hate to be in Mac’s shoes and try to figure out who’s with me and who’s against me.

I’m taking your word for it Mandi. I felt like KMM knifed me. Right in the heart damn it.

Probably not. I wouldn’t trust Darroc has far as I could throw him.

  15. Julie says:

The journal – I have no idea. NO idea who is sending the pages. Who would want to mess with Mac like that?

Rowena – she has crazy written all over her…but I think you guys are right about her being portrayed as too mean. That has to mean that she is going to help save the day at one point or another.

I had completely forgotten how Mac calls the book Beast. Interesting and now I will keep that in mind when I re-read the other books.

I think that Barrons got the orb with the shades already in there. I really don’t see any benefit to him if he were the one who put the shades in there…and Barrons doesn’t do anything unless it will suit his purpose.

I wonder if Christian felt Alina’s boyfriend as Fae because he could somehow sense the unseelie in him. Actually, is it ever said out right that LM is eating unseelie? I can’t quite recall…

The princess theory makes sense about why V’Lane and Barrons dislike and distrust each other. V’Lane wouldn’t want to get close to Barrons if he killed his princess. That would mean that Barrons can somehow kill him too. And why share that tidbit with Mac when she would just tell them both to feck off!

I LOVE how Barrons bought Mac a ticket to the U.S. Do you think, if the walls had not come down and if Mac had gone home, that Barrons would have gone to her when his job was done with the MacKeltars?

And I too got the impression that body number 4 was the LM… Man did I forget stuff about this book too… lol

  16. Bells says:

I believe the LM was sitting and giving orders. The 4th is described as: “wasn’t quite the same” as the other 3! So the 4th was no a Fae maybe?

  17. Julie says:

So if you guys think the LM was giving orders and not ‘doing’, that would mean that he has enough power to order around unseelie princes! How would that work?

  18. Deanna says:

I’m really not sure who is sending Mac the pages, I first thought it was the LM, then maybe Rowena and even Barrons…it’s so hard to really decide when it’s been so hard to trust anyone in this book!

Rowena, sometimes strikes me as being power hungry but then other times maybe she does the things she does because she is just being very over protective of the sidhe-seers since they are basically her family…still dont’ think I trust her one bit.

I honestly thought the little boy was Barrons…I just kept going back to when Mac and Barrons kissed and she kept having flash backs of a lone boy in the dessert…maybe it’s Barrons, maybe that explains his unusual, non-human part.

I think the reason Christian remembers Alina’s boyfriend as Fae is the same reason Mac did, because the LM gives off a vibe of being Fae. Maybe since Christian only caught a quick glimpse of him he only sensed the Fae part…

I really want to know these secrets between V’lane and Barrons and I know they must be terrible for them to not rat each other out. This is all just getting insane! I can’t wait to start the next book.

Oh and I haven’t read any of the Highlander series and I noticed on the other discussions people brought them up. Are they things you should read to understand the Fever series better??

  19. Jen D – I think Mac had to go through this in a weird way – and in Dreamfever I fell in love with her even more.

I do have one complaint about DF but will go into that next discussion.

I also love in this book that the walls come down. I mean – MASS DEVASTATION. KMM does not hold back on anything. I love that.

  20. Jen D. says:

@Mandi – No I think it’s only the three princes that end up doing stuff with her. She’s aware of the fourth person but, I don’t think they actively participate in what’s happening to her.

  21. Julie – I don’t know! Maybe KMM mentions “the fourth” and then the very last pg when she reveals the LM is there – she means he is the 4th? BUT that is never the impression I get. And I honestly can’t remember what more we learn about LM in DF.

Deanna – The boy in the cage might be Barrons…but I don’t know.

The highlander books (the last four) feature Christian’s uncles and a couple things related to Fever – but you do NOT have to read them.

  22. @Jen D – Ah..then I think the 4th is LM

  23. Julie says:

Mandi – I know what you mean about not really remembering many specifics about DF. I only really remember chapter 4 very well! LOL

  24. Sophia (FV) says:

@tori aka ggs_closet: My heart broke too Tori. :(
@Bells: Yes, the 4th guy is a worrisome but I don’t think it was V’lane.

  25. Sophia (FV) says:

@Jen D.: He was in the room but it’s not clear if he participated. I don’t think he did.

@Deanna: “it’s so hard to really decide when it’s been so hard to trust anyone in this book!” YES, it is very hard to know whom to trust. This series drives me crazy.

  26. Sophia (FV) says:

@Mandi Schreiner: RE: Mass Devastation. YES!! I was shocked the first time I read this book. So much happened and I was so surprised when the walls actually came down. And I was devastated at what happened to Mac in the church. I did not see that coming at all.

  27. Jen D. says:

@Mandi and Sophia – KMM definitely does not hold back any punches. I felt beat up after reading FF. I still can’t believe that what happened to Mac happened in a church. A church for crying out loud! My boyfriend is so going to hate me for the next few days because I’ll be nose deep in DF. And God help anyone who tries to get my attention.

  28. @Jen D.: I read my comments on GR from the first time I read this book. I said the book left me cold. No lie, it left me cold again even though I knew what to expect at the end.

  29. @Deanna:

I think the reason Christian remembers Alina’s boyfriend as Fae is the same reason Mac did, because the LM gives off a vibe of being Fae. Maybe since Christian only caught a quick glimpse of him he only sensed the Fae part…

Yes, I think you’re right. I guess if there was another player in the game we would have had more clues about it by now.

  30. Julie says:

I also really like how KMM made the walls halfway through the series. If this was what I assumed it was going to be, meaning a whole series about trying to keep the walls up then, at the end of the last book, ultimately succeeding, it wouldn’t have been nearly as compelling or as gripping of a series. And I say they would have succeeded because this series is going to have a happy ending, right? RIGHT?

What does everyone think of Dani? Would you guys be happy or upset if KMM’s next series is about her?

  31. @Julie: KMM promises at the end of FF that Mac will have a lot of joy. So I’m clinging to that and saying yes, there will be a HEA. There has to be. *bites nails*

I totally want Dani to be the next heroine in the Fever world. She’s very young now but hopefully the next books will pick up after she is at least 18 so her and Ryodan can have ‘chemistry’.

  32. Jen D. says:

@Julie – I don’t know what I’ll do if there’s not some sort of HEA and joy for Mac. I may have to beat someone up. Hope the boyfriend’s not reading this over my shoulder. LOL!

I love Dani and wouldn’t mind her being the next heroine in the Fever World. The lass has spunk and I love that she’s got a mouth on her.

  33. Julie says:

FV – Oooo, Dani and Ryodan! Nice!!! And I do think there will be a HEA, otherwise they would not be sold in the romance department of the book store. I still call them UF, but they aren’t sold along side all the other UF books out there.

  34. Deanna says:

@Julie – In case no one has answered your question about LM and eating the unseelie…yes KMM has it as a focus for part of a discussion between V’lane and Mac. He mentions that the LM started eating the Unseelie which is very treturous and V’lane says he should be punished, then Mac gets kind of scared since she had eaten some Unseelie too and she didn’t realize just how bad it was…

  35. Deanna says:

@Sophia – thanks for the requotes and thinking about my ideas. It’s great to see everyone elses ideas and get new thoughts going through your head!

@Julie – I love Dani, it would be awesome to have some books dedicated just to her…

and I never really thought to put her with Ryodan! :-D

  36. @Jen D.: Dani is awesome. She’s immature but I like how KMM allows her heroines to grow. Dani would be perfect for the next FW books.
@Julie: There is a HEA. KMM promised. *stomps feet* lol
@Deanna: Yes! Some people still hold out hope for LM to be a good guy but I don’t see how KMM could ever redeem him if he was actually present during Mac’s rape. That’s too much for redemption to be possible in my mind.

  37. Julie says:

Deanna – Wow…I totally missed that about the LM eating Unseelie. I guess that’s what happens when you try to sneak in some reading time while surrounded by kids! :/ Thanks!

  38. @Julie: There are so many details in these books. I think you’d learn something new each time you read them.

@Deanna: The reason I think Ryodan with Dani is he is so intrigued by her in DF. I think once she grows up a bit that interest could turn into something more.

  39. Mandi says:

I am positive there will be a HEA. kmm pretty much said it without saying it.

  40. Bells says:

Barrons carries the body of a woman out of one of the silvers. Who do you think this woman was? I thought it might have been the concubine, but we learn from V’laine that she took her own life. Maybe she didn’t. Like everything else, it just brings up more questions in my mind.

  41. @Bells: Yeah, that could be anyone because the silvers allow a person to travel through realms. So the possibilities are endless. I have thought about this a lot and I have NO idea who the woman is. It can’t be anyone Mac knows or she would have said there was something familiar about the woman etc. *stumped*

  42. Mandi says:

Where did Barrons take bloody woman????

  43. @Mandi: Maybe it was time to feed the monster under the garage? I DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!!

  44. Julie says:

That is true! We haven’t talked about the woman Barrons carries! Did he kill her? Try to save her? Who is she? WTF? lol

  45. Bells says:

@Julie: In Dreamfever, Mac sees the vision of the woman dying and says to Barrons, you killed her and you enjoyed it. He agrees with her, but I don’t know if he did that just to get her off his back.

  46. @Julie: Because I desperately want Barrons to be a good guy I hold out hope she was not actually dead and he rescued her to heal her or something. Barrons is not bad. Right? :)

  47. @Bells: yes, Barrons is like that. :)

  48. Deanna says:

Hey…I haven’t read Dreamfever yet!!!! :-( Am I the only person on this thing that hasn’t read through all the books yet?!?!

  49. Bells says:

Darroc also tells Mac that he wasn’t done with Alina and that he had no plans to kill her when he was done with her. Barrons is using Mac the same way Darroc was using Alina. In that case, who killed Alina? We know that Mac will be working alongside Darroc in Shadowfever.

  50. Deanna says:

@FV – I do think that Barrons was trying to save who ever this mystery girl is and not try to kill her. The only way I think he would have killed her is if she was a threat to him or Mac…of course I’m a hopeless romantic and as hard as it has been to trust Barrons now I really want to! (after the first book, I wanted to push him into a fire!)

  51. @Deanna: We will limit our discussion up to Faefever only, so as not to spoil those that have not read beyond this book. I think most of us have read all the way to DF so it’s hard to keep the discussion limited but we definitely don’t want to ruin it for those that haven’t. No spoilers here. :)

  52. Jen D. says:

@Deanna – You are not alone. This is the first time I’ve read the series and I’ll be starting DF tonight.

  53. Deanna says:

@Bells – Good question…who the heck did kill Alina?? Mac was so convinced this entire time that the LM killed her sister. So was it Barrons, did she just stumble down the wrong ally and get attacked by unseelie, was it the hunters, was it someone else that has been mentioned in the books or not??!! I honestly don’t know who I think killed Mac’s sister but I really hope we figure that out!

  54. Bells says:

I’m sorry for mentioning Dreamfever. But that thought popped into my mind when I was thinking about the woman that Barrons carried out. :D

  55. Deanna says:

@Jen D – I’m glad I’m not the only one…and I do plan on reading through this series all over again after Shadowfever comes out…everyone seems to be saying the same thing, there is so much you miss the first time through!

  56. Bells says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I have a bad feeling about Rowena. Something about her just doesn’t sit right with me. She seems to have some evil in her. lol

  57. @Deanna: I really want Barrons to be a good guy so I’m going with your theory.

@Bells: It’s so hard to know but I guess that’s what keeps us coming back for more. It’s hard to limit the discussion to events that have happened only up to Faefever as well. :)

@Jen D.: I’ll be starting my re-read of DF in a few days. I’m giddy!

  58. Mandi says:

I have a bad feeling about dreamy eye guy…What is his deal?

  59. Deanna says:

@Bells – LOL, it’s fine! I completely understand getting excited when you put things together from the different books! I also have a problem when I’ve been reading through a series to keep the books seperate instead of blending them all into one story and forgetting which book in particular a peice of info came from.

  60. @Bells: Definitely! I can’t figure her out though. Is she really good but just a bitch? Or is she really dangerous and a secret undercover type? :) lol

  61. @Bells: No worries! It’s really hard not to get ahead. I want to talk about it all!! Soon we can let loose and go crazy!! LOLOL

  62. Deanna says:

@Mandi – I completely agree! When he first appeared in the book I thought he was a sweet, attractive guy…but now I really am not sure. We just don’t know enough about him and that makes me uncomfortable!

  63. @Mandi: Dreamy eyed guy is bad news. I know it. He is spying on the players I think but I don’t know for whom. Remember when he sneaks up on Christian and Mac while they’re talking. That was when I get the creeps about him. Before that I’m ashamed to say he had me a little charmed LOL

  64. Bells says:

@Mandi: I thought the same thing about the dreamy eyed guy. We see more of him later, but there really isn’t any other clues to who he is.

  65. @Bells: It’s always those dreamy-eyed guys that cause trouble. Remember that. LOL

  66. Deanna says:

@Bells & FV – I completely agree. I really do go back and forth on Rowena. One minute I don’t think she is evil, that she’s just been through so much war that she has become hard and then other times I would kill her myself because I don’t trust her one ounce!

My other question is if everyone says that the spear and the sword are the only two ways to kill Fae…how would Alina kill them if she wasn’t with Rowena and why would V’lane be afriad of Barrons unless he could kill him another way??

  67. I remember a part from Darkfever that stood out to me about the dreamy-eyed guy. I have one theory about him, but there is another that now makes me suspicious of him. In Darkfever, when she first sees the dreamy-eyed guy in the museum it says:
“A particularly graphic image of cute boy plus brothers swam up in my mind and I nearly staggered from the raw eroticism of it”
At the end of Faefever, there was one man out of the four that seemed ashamed when to do what he doing to Mac? I think it is possible it may be him. Maybe he was trailing her for the Lord Master not Barrons (as I originally thought).
So I am with you Mandi Schreiner. I still want to stick by my original theory, that he was the beast at the end of Dreamfever, but that quote really has me going in the other direction.

  68. @Deanna: Mac raised that same question in this book. She wondered if Alina was referring to killing humans or if she was referring to killing fae how she was doing it. I don’t think it was answered in this book. But Rowena says she didn’t know Alina right? And none of the other Side-seers have mentioned her so I just don’t know.

Your other question: Barrons is bad ass, don’t forget that. Everyone fears him LOL.

  69. Mandi says:

Holy crap!!! Dreamy Eye guy could be the fourth at the end of FF??? Must ponder

  70. Bells says:

@Deanna: Good questions Deanna. Why is he so afraid of Barrons?!

  71. I don’t trust Rowena for sure. I honestly believe she had something to do with Mac’s mom death. It might be possible she killed her mom for her position? I don’t know. I just know I don’t trust her one bit. Barrons hate them too, but he seems to be against everyone even the MacKeltars (who I love, YUM!)

  72. @Harleyquinn0887: Did not ever think of that!! Could be you know. Wow.

  73. Christine says:

I have to thank you ladies again for coming up with the idea to host this Read-Along. Had you not, the books may have sat in my TBR unread for Lord knows how long and that would have been a travesty because I fecking love this series!!!

I, too, am EXTREMELY suspicious of Dreamy-eyed-guy. He is trouble with a capital T, I am sure.

I also don’t trust Rowena when it comes to how she treats Mac, but at the same time, I want to think Rowena’s agenda is not nefarious in this war, but more that she has misjudged Mac’s power and purpose.

The part in Alina’s journal where she says she’s “going to kill her tomorrow.” — Who is “her”? I wonder if Alina was going to kill Rowena? I don’t feel strongly about this theory, but it was the first thing that crossed my mind. Or Fiona? Or the Queen herself? Was Darroc/LM going to bring her there via the Silvers, but Alina was stopped by someone else’s orders?

I don’t think the 4th was V’Lane. Unless he was sort of projecting himself there to assess her and/or soothe her, as the 4th Prince was apparently gentle with Mac? Maybe that one wasn’t trying to rape her at all, but protect her somehow but because he was Fae, she was affected by his presence?

I kind of think the 4th one at the end was maybe the Unseelie Prince of War… I don’t believe that Prince is dead. So who is he and where has he been? I wonder if we already “know” who this Prince is, but we–or any others– don’t know who he is either. Gah!

Deanna’s explanation in the comment above of why the boy could have been Barrons makes sense. I agree with that speculation.

I sometimes think Barrons can do the time travel thing that V’Lane said no one can do anymore… (and maybe the bloody woman is foreshadowing or something?) but then why didn’t he go back and change things? So I’m not sure…

    I ADORE Dani, too!

Omgosh, the rainbow quote from book 4. *sniff* My heart broke a little more there….

  74. Bells says:

The Unseelie King. We learn from V’lane that he vanished with the Unseelie, and those that did not vanish were killed, or put in prison. So where is he now that the walls are down? Have we seen him already?

  75. Bells says:

    @Fiction Vixen: Yes I totally agree! Hmm…

  76. @Harleyquinn0887: Oh another theory I have not considered. Rowena certainly could have had something to do with Mac’s mom’s death. Interesting.

  77. Jen D. says:

    *covering eyes at DF references*

Yeah I’m not feeling the dreamy eyed guy either. He reeks of double agent. I don’t think he was the fourth guy at the end though.

On a side note….has anyone ever pre-ordered a book from Borders? If you have, are they good about getting the book shipped on time?

  78. @Christine: I don’t know if I’m getting ahead here or not. Weren’t the rapists Unseelie princes? V’lane would not have participated along with them right?

  79. @Bells: Some speculate that Barrons is the UK. I refuse to believe it. Refuse!!!

  80. Christine says:

@Fiction Vixen: No, you’re right. I really don’t think the 4th was V’Lane. But I do recall Mac sensing that the 4th one was very different from the others and more gentle. That’s important and relevant somehow… I’m just grasping at straws! LOL!

I really think the 4th was the Unseelie Prince of War who has apparently been “dead” or “missing” and he’s not really “dead”… just missing and there he was somehow? I don’t know. This is like a crazy puzzle!

  81. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: I thought that before as well, but now I don’t think that he is. Oh my…I’m so confused. This series makes my head hurt, but I love it so!

  82. Jen D. says:

@Fiction Vixen: LOL! Everything’s a possibility at this point. There could be worse right?! I mean the UK was trying to convert to the side of good at the end, no?

  83. @Jen D.:

on a side note….has anyone ever pre-ordered a book from Borders? If you have, are they good about getting the book shipped on time?

No, sorry. I usually only pre-order from Amazon and they were LATE with Dreamfever. Now I preorder the Kindle version and get it at Midnight. LOL I also pre-ordered a HC for the shelf. I know, I’m sick. lol

  84. Julie says:

    @Bells:

Oh that’s true. Damn it! More confusion! LOL

  85. @Christine: I just hope it’s no one that Mac has been on good terms with in the past. I hate to see her betrayed on that level.

  86. Jen D. says:

LOL! I wouldn’t go so far as to say sick. Obsessed maybe but never sick. ;-)

  87. @Jen D.: Yes, there is a small degree of redemption for him I guess. But wow look at all the trouble he’s caused! :)

  88. Julie says:

@Fiction Vixen: Of course Barrons is good. I think he was once bad and screwed up royally and has to do all this to fix it…or something along those lines. :)

And boy, I make lunch and do a craft and come back to the discussion and there are like 54 new comments (and no, I don’t have a tendency to exaggerate) I’ll have to read everything else when the kiddies go for nap/movie.

  89. @Deanna: What if there Alina had some sort of power like Barrons might have? We also don’t know if she had an object that killed them as well. But like FV said, Barrons is definitely a badass and he isn’t human.

  90. @Julie: I know! I feel like I can’t take a bathroom break or I’ll get behind. LOL

Oh, nice theory on Barrons. Kind of sounds like the Unseelie King though. I so don’t want him to be the unseelie king. But I’ve always wondered if he is and Mac somehow resembled the concubine and that’s why there is so much attraction to her? That’s too easy right? I thought he couldn’t be the UK because he couldn’t touch the book but we learn in FF that the book is he equal and so he cannot master it. hmmmm…..

  91. @Harleyquinn0887: Do we ever learn if Mac is the most powerful Side-seer? More powerful than Alina?

  92. @Fiction Vixen: I just find it odd that she recognizes Mac by her looks and knows she is the daughter of someone she knew. But instead of helping her, she abandons her. I thin Rowena definitely holds a grudge against them in some way. I just can’t shake that she was hoping Mac would kick the bucket.

  93. @Fiction Vixen: That is what the book said. Her and Alina are sisters, it is possible Alina was really strong as well. They said she was there for 8 months, she obviously knew how to survive up to a point.

  94. Bells says:

Alina’s last voice mail message to make included, “He’s coming. I don’t think he’ll let me out of the country.” I think she was talking about the Unseelie King.

  95. @Harleyquinn0887: You have a good point there. She is the leader of the side-seers and makes not attempt at taking Mac in. Do we ever know if it was Macs mother that sent them out of the country or was it someone else after Macs mothers death?

  96. I’m supposed to be ‘working’ instead I’m devouring all the comments on this discussion.

    I think LM was Alina’s boyfriend….

  97. @Fiction Vixen: Well, I believe in Bloodfever or Dreamfever, Mac’s dad said that it was an old woman that made the adoption deal with them. They didn’t say that it was actually Mac’s and Alina’s mom. Their mom didn’t seem like an old woman when she died.

  98. @Harleyquinn0887: Yes that was in BF I think.

  99. Andrea_desherb says:

I’m being very bad LOL I haven’t finished this book yet. I came over to see what everyone thinks about this book!I like the way you have the characters descriptions, its very helpful and insightful! I didn’t read your ‘End of Book’ section tho. I love your blog and all the work that you do for it!

  100. Bells says:

Has anyone put any thought into the dreams that Mac is having? She dreams of a sad woman trying to tell her something. In FF, she has one of these dreams and V’lane, Barron, and Christian are in her dream. There are also men with Barrons. I wonder if she is actually someplace else while she dreams. Perhaps she has some kind of power to do this.

  101. @Christine: I thought the same same thing about the time travel. I know this is really far fetched, but the scene near the beginning of FaeFever where Mac sneaks into Barrons office and saw him walk through the mirror with the woman in his arms? What if he uses them to travel through time and that woman was someone they knew? I know that is weird, but everyone seems to know that Mac is apart of some prophecy, what if Barrons has been traveling through time this whole time? Maybe that is why he doesn’t seems to age. I don’t know, I am just throwing things out there.

  102. @Fiction Vixen: Oh okay. I just couldn’t remember which. But it is true, they said it was an old woman. They didn’t say it was even someone who looked related to Mac and Alina.

  103. Bells says:

@Harleyquinn0887: I totally think Barrons can time travel and that he uses the mirrors to do that! I think there is a reason for all of that, and it’s one of my theories as to who Barrons is. He is visiting his past, and needs the book to fix something that happened.

  104. @Andrea_desherb: Thank you! It could not be done without Mandi and Tori though. :)

  105. Mandi says:

But…hasn’t V’lane made it a point that time travel is no longer possible.. All are stuck in present?

  106. @Bells: Oh, you mean she actually goes to the place in her dream…not just a dream?

  107. @Bells: Yes it does seem like Barrons is desperate to ‘fix’ something. We got a clue to that when he admonished Fiona in the last book. (was it the last book? I’m getting confused)

  108. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: Maybe? LOL! Who knows! Well KMM knows. ;)

  109. @Mandi: Yes, he did make that point. He said for the Fae though. Do we believe Barrons is Fae or not?

  110. So you think others can time travel – just not the fae? I don’t know

  111. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: Oh I can’t remember! What did he say?!!!!

  112. @Mandi Schreiner: Anything is possible with Barrons. He seems to have magic that no one else has.

  113. I want a shirt that says “I’d go Pri-ya for Barrons”

    Cause I’m a hussy like that ;)

  114. @Bells: I like that. There have been a couple of times throughout the series when she is dreaming or daydreaming, but it seems maybe she wasn’t. I think you maybe right about that. I think that even if the men don’t like each other, they are all there for Mac to make sure she doesn’t become the doom of the world.

  115. @Bells: He was pissed at Fiona for trying to kill Mac and he said something like she could have ruined his last chance or something. I’ll try to look for the quote. Stand by.

  116. Deanna says:

Wow, I agree with Julie, you leave for a short while and there are about 100 comments on here to get through. I do agree that Rowena has some grude against Mac’s Mom. She knew exactly what bloodline she came from and immediately shoved her away. She’s fishy…I just can’t figure out why I don’t like her!

As for everyone mentioning Mac being powerful…well…does anyone remember the part in the book where she opens the garage door and the shade is there and all of a sudden her vision goes completely black and then finally she blinks and the lights come back to her sight….do you think she is so powerful that she has preminitions (sp)? This is far fetched so bear with me…but do you think that Mac is really older than we think, or she is a reincarnation of someone. She keeps talking about the part of her brain that she can’t tap into and she doesn’t know if she wants to…maybe that is where memories from long ago lie and maybe we will get more answers when she finally lets herself tap into that place….

  117. Bells says:

@Mandi Schreiner: I want one too. I would wear it proudly! I want to be trapped in a room with him for months!

  118. Deanna – Many have guessed that she is the concubine reincarnated (or someone else reincarnated for that matter)

I definitely think that is a possibility.

  119. @Fiction Vixen: OH NO! Damn, it comes in another book. *red face*

  120. Bells says:

@Deanna: I totally agree with you! I think there is more to Mac! I think she may have been a part of the past, or she may have been in the silvers herself and just doesn’t remember everything! These memories may be trying to come back to her now.

  121. @Mandi Schreiner: See I kind of don’t want that. I want to be totally blown away by something we just don’t expect. Reincarnation seems too easy.

  122. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: It must be in Dreamfever. I’ll try to find it myself. Thanks for the info!

  123. Julie says:

@Harleyquinn0887: I LOVE your theories. Just wanted to tell you that. :)

  124. @Bells: I agree. I think he used to bad and he needs to find the book to fix something that happened back then. It is definitely that specific mirror. He knows about the others and he could easily take those if he wanted to, but there is a reason he has that one.

  125. Deanna says:

@Bells – yes and I saw you saying the thing about when she is dreaming she is going to another place not really a dream at all…I happen to agree with you.

@Viction Vixen – I totally agree that reincarnation is just too easy…hmmm…so many questions! So many thoughts, brain overload!!!!

Is Shadowfever supposed to be the last MacKayla Lane book? Is that the book we are supposed to get all of our questions answered????

  126. @Bells: It is darn it. It is so hard not to discuss beyond this book. I’ll be glad when we get to the DF discussion. LOL

  127. @Deanna: Yes it is the last Mac book and I really hope we get all the answers to her story. I am glad there will be more Fever world books though.

  128. Hey everyone, if you want to respond to a specific comment just hover over the comment and a ‘reply button’ will appear. Click it and it will take you down to the comment box and it will place a link to the comment you are responding to with an “@” sign.

  129. @Julie: Oh thank you hon. That is why I love this series. There are so many possibilities and details. It is fun looking at it from every angle.

  130. Deanna says:

    Haha, now I get the @NAME thing…

One other overall question then I’ll get back to discussing book stuff…are you going to do a discussion for Shadowfever at the end as well where we can finally put all the peices of the puzzle together and talk about ALL the books?

  131. @Harleyquinn0887: I agree! You are bringing up some really good points. On the downside, my brain hurts worse than ever! LOL

  132. Deanna says:

@KC/Smokinhotbooks: I do agree, I think that LM was Alina’s boyfriend especially after Mac found the pictures of the two of them together and Alina looked love struck…that was in BF I believe. But since then I do think that, that is the person she was dating.

  133. @Deanna: Yes – I think a week or so after SF we should do a similar post?? I plan on writing a non-spoiler review and a spoiler review about two days after book comes out – but I definitely think we need a big OMG let’s discuss post

  134. @Deanna: We haven’t discussed that yet but I think it would be fun. We’d have to wait a while though because I would hate to inadvertently spoil someone. Even with warnings it’s risky. I’ll have to get together with my partners in crime and see what they say. ;)

  135. @Mandi Schreiner: LOL you were quicker than me LOL

  136. @Deanna: I definitely don’t think it is reincarnation. That doesn’t work for me. I hope in Shadowfever, we could learn who Mac’s and Alina’s dad was. I think there is a chance that both their real mom and dad were powerful.

I also heard that Moning is making a series about Ryodan. Anybody like Barrons, I would love to read more about for sure. So there is definitely more Fever coming even after Shadowfever wraps up this series.

  137. Deanna says:

@Harleyquinn0887: Oh I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that you reminded me of one of my BIGGEST thoughts!!!!!! From the very beginning of the books (when we found out that Mac and Alina were adopted) they always mentioned their Mom but never brought up there Dad. So what if their Dad was a Fae or some other sort of creature and that is why they have so many different unique powers that other sidhe-seers don’t have…

  138. @Harleyquinn0887: Oh so it is confirmed Ryodan will get a series? I heard that he would get some major play coming up but I didn’t know it was confirmed he would be the hero. Awesome!

  139. @Fiction Vixen: Thanks hon. I am trying to bring up all that I have been thinking of since the first time I read this. I am trying to keep up though, the moment the page is refreshed, 10 more comments pop up LOL, I love it though, even though my brain is hurting me too LOL

  140. Yes – the biological daddy….Who is that??

  141. @Harleyquinn0887: I know, I’m afraid to step away. I could get lost LOL.

  142. @Deanna: That is exactly what I thought. I think their dad was something not human for sure. We also don’t know whether or not their mom was anything besides a sidhe-seer. Because if not, dad definitely has a lot of explaining to do.

  143. @Fiction Vixen: I saw it first on Moning’s forum, she announced it on her site sometime back. Can’t wait to see more of him.

  144. @Fiction Vixen: I feel lost, no worries hon LOL

  145. @Harleyquinn0887: Me too. I loved when Barrons was fighting him while he talked on the phone with Mac. Am I weird because I thought that was hot? Barrons+Ryodan+fighting=HOT LOL

  146. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: I thought it was hot as well! LOL! *swoon*

  147. Ah yes – that would be a HOT from me as well. ;)

  148. @Bells: I knew I could count on you Bells LOL

  149. @Mandi Schreiner: *fist bump* Woot!!!!!!!!

  150. Christine says:

@Harleyquinn0887 I don’t think that’s far-fetched at all. That’s exactly what I was thinking too… that Barrons walking into his office through the mirror was Barrons having just time traveled.. and the woman in his arms is actually Mac and he brought her back. And of course, she wasn’t dead. Just an idea, though, because every time I think of a new theory, I think of something else that debunks it. Circles, I tell you! Circles! LOL!

  151. @Christine: *cringe* The time travel theories are intriguing but man I hope this whole story does not hinge on it. Once time travel gets involved I get really confused. That’s where LOST lost me. LOL

  152. Deanna says:

@Christine: I must have missed the comment about the woman Barrons brought through the mirror being Mac…unless you just stated this idea Christine. Either way, I think that is completely possible! I can’t believe the time traveling thing never came to my mind until a few people on here mentioned it…

  153. OMG, I’m so late to the party! I’m just going to jump in and hope that someone still wants to talk about what I have questions on…

You’re all going to hate me, but I think the 4th guy is Barrons somehow. And he’s different from the princes b/c he’s the Unseelie King… but he’s not anymore. I know this is hard/impossible to prove b/c of the fact that we find out where he was during the rape but I think that’s why HE can do what he does in the beginning of Dreamfever. Ya know, like maybe because he’s no longer Unseelie he can be one of those few fae that use to be able to travel through time but since he’s been “missing” for so long they assume that no-one can do this anymore. So he goes to the Mac “in some way” when she’s raped so that he can do what he needs to do in DF

OK, here’s my whole take on the Barrons and the girl in the mirror…and kind of my guess on the series in a way. Barrons is the Unseelie King and learn that he fell in love with a human woman and so he created all these things for her to give her power as much as he has etc etc. Only she sees how it’s destroying him and how dark he’s becoming so she kills herself so that he can’t turn any darker. And so Barrons has outcast himself into the human world {but doesn’t age} in search of the SD to bring her back…to resurrect her. It’s his only mission in life to have her back…. the woman in the mirror is his concubine, his lover and she’s in some cryogentic type state that’s preserving her in same magical way. Remember they were both covered in ice?! This is why he can say that he killed her, but he enjoyed doing it…he enjoyed loving her but it killed her. No idea why he HAD to moved her…

You’re probably all laughing, but that’s my thoughts…

  154. Deanna says:

@Fiction Vixen: I never even thought how confusing time travel can get. And with only two books to go that could be a bit hard to encompass.

  155. Christine says:

I also don’t want Barrons to be the Unseelie King because that means he was obsessive crazy in love with his non-Fae concubine and I don’t want him to have ever had feelings for anyone near as strongly as he feels for Mac.

I’m also not crazy about reincarnation story lines, so I hope that’s not the case with Mac being the UK’s concubine reincarnated.

Although, if we are going along those lines, I’d almost rather Mac be the original Seelie Queen reincarnated than the UK’s concubine. THEN if Barrons were the UK, he would be trying to make amends to his Queen for ever becoming “dark” at all… and trying to win her forgiveness and love back now and bugger the concubine. But that is REALLY far fetched in my romantic fantasy fairy tale mind. LOL!

  156. Julie says:

No! No time travel! like Fiction Vixen, that’s where books lose me… I hope that if time travel plays a role, it’s not a super duper important one! lol

  157. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Not laughing at all. At this point anything is possible. Anything! The only reason I reject this theory is I really don’t want Barrons to be the UK. I just don’t. I think we just need Shadowfever and I think it BETTER have all the answers. If it doesn’t you all may want to stay away from me for a while, I could get violent. :) lol

  158. Christine says:

@Deanna: I don’t think there was a prior comment about the woman being Mac. I just said that for the first time a few minutes ago. But I was thinking Barrons had just time traveled in that scene when I first read it. I don’t know why I think that. And at the time, all I could think of was Barrons doing ANYTHING to keep Mac alive.

  159. @Christine: @Deanna: @Julie: OMG we’re in too deep. It’s too much! I’m scared.

  160. Julie says:

Did the woman Barrons carried out of the mirror have dark hair or light hair? Do we know?

  161. Deanna says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): Actually those are some good throughts. I have read DF so I don’t completely understand your reference to that (and I’m ok with that, I don’t want to get it until I read it). But I just can’t see Barrons being the 4th person in the room when she gets raped…it’s too hard for me to grasp. But of course a good book throws curves in that you aren’t expecting right?!

As for the mirror thing…very nice thought. Maybe it is true that he tried to move the love of his life but I thought she was already dead.

If Barrons is the Unseelie King then why does he have so many emotions. You know how the reference V’lane and how he doesn’t have any human emotions…wouldn’t Barrons be the same way. Then again, the UK did fall in love with a human…so if he is the UK why would he be sleeping around with so many other women? I mean if he was really in love with this concubine…almost obsessivly in love with her…I wouldn’t think he would sleep with anyone else.

  162. @Fiction Vixen: I know its awful to think that he would love another and not just MAC! But, I think that’s why he struggles with his reaction to her…b/c if he has this strong of feelings for her then what is his purpose anymore? why is he still hunting the SD?!

I just think that if the girl in the mirror were Mac she would have been able to tell…or been more curious.

  163. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Totally not laughing! Is Barrons as UK too obvious? Are we expecting something else that we haven’t though of? I don’t know. It makes sense..yet…maybe I want something else..LOL.

My brain feels like it’s going to explode.

  164. @Julie: checking right now

  165. @Julie: I don’t think we got very much info about her. Since the story is told from Mac’s POV we only get her impressions and she was mostly concerned with the fact that it was Barrons coming out the silver. She did say she sensed a big evil coming. I assume that would have been Barrons. I wonder if the ‘electric’ buzz she always feels from him is him masking her ability to sense his evilness or fae-ness? Again, I don’t want him to be the UK but darn the clues keep pointing that way.

  166. @Fiction Vixen: Trust me that was hot. I was imagining in very nice detail LOL

  167. Let’s remember in Bloodfever when Mac was dying in the cave – Barrons says – THis isn’t what I would have chosen.

Someone is pulling his strings!!! Would he be the UK and still be working under someone???

  168. Bells says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): I think that theory is very possible. Anything is possible in this series. lol

  169. “In his arms he carried the brutually savaged bloody body of a young woman. I didn’t need to feel her pulse to know that she was dead.”

    no description

  170. Bells says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): If I tell you my theory will you promise not to laugh at me?

  171. @Christine: I don’t think she was dead either. It doesn’t even seem like Mac stayed around to check because she was so freaked out. There was no description of her at all, so that might be significant.

  172. Bells says:

@Mandi Schreiner: Told you. Our brains are going to explode.

  173. Deanna says:

@Christine: Ok, my other thought had been that Mac was the Seelie Queen but just didn’t remember it, or something happened to her to make her become human. That is why V’lane will acutally listen to her…and he is constantly trying to be with her.

What do you all think about the Cuff that he (V’lane) keeps trying to get Mac to wear??

  174. Christine says:

    My head is spinning….

I just want it to be January 18 … like right now.

  175. @Deanna: But does Barrons REALLY sleep around? We dont know. Mac speculates but we dont know. And just b/c he gets his kicks doesn’t mean he actually loves them… this is why he’s much more conflicted and doesn’t every act out on Mac sexually (really) b/c then what would that mean…would he still be in love with his dead concubine?

and yes I was vague on purpose b/c I didn’t want to spoil :)

  176. @Mandi Schreiner: I don’t totally think someone is pulling his strings. I think he is trying to make something very wrong, right again and he needs Mac to do it. I think her almost dying was just not in his plan and he loves her. He knows he’s putting her in grave danger and he was devastated he almost got her killed. *crosses fingers anyway*

  177. @Bells: OMH please, I jsut told my ridiculous one!

  178. *cough cough* apologies for my too-fast typing… I’m all in a tizzy

  179. @Jessica (The Spinecracker):

and yes I was vague on purpose b/c I didn’t want to spoil

Thank you! I know it’s really hard, I’m struggling too! :)

  180. @Mandi Schreiner: Yes, it’s probably something we TOTALLY haven’t thought of and we’re totally going to be spinning …even more than normal :D

  181. Deanna says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): True, true. I just remember in the first book when they ran into a few people at the parties and one was a woman that had slept with Barrons and I remember a few of the guys poking fun at him about how he was with a girl now instead of a woman like usual. That’s where I got the sleeping around thought from…but it is just speculation we don’t know for sure.

  182. @Fiction Vixen: LOL… and that’s something REALLY not to spoil :)

  183. @Deanna: oh yeah I forgot about that. hmmmm too many possibilities

  184. Julie says:

@Fiction Vixen: I like that. I agree with you there too. He is trying to fix a wrong For Sure.

  185. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): I don’t think Barrons is the fourth guy at all. Why turn her Pri-Ya, just to untrun her from being Pri-Ya? Also Barrons being the Lord Master’s follower? Barrons can kill V’lane without a Fae hallow, I am sure there is no way he would let anyone push him around especially the Lord Master. And remember, Barrons said he taught the Lord Master his tricks, so I am sure he is not a follower. But I do love that theory with the woman in the mirror. That is a good possibility as well.

  186. Bells says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): Ok. I think that Barrons is the child of The Unseelie King and the concubine. She was preggo and gave birth to him somewhere in the silvers. I think that he is the boy that Mac sees when she gets into his mind. I think that Barrons wants to bring his mother back to live and needs the book to do that. I think the woman he brings through the mirror was his mother as well. I don’t know where he put her body though. I think that is why Mac senses something with Barrons. Because he has some Fae in him. He can touch the spear because his father was Fae. See, my ridiculous theory.

  187. Deanna says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): LOL. You guys are driving me crazy (in a good way)! I really want to read DF but I can’t start it up until tonight…the more that comes up on it the more I just want to run home, pick the book up and not stop reading it until I’m done! :-D

  188. @Julie: Keep in mind a lot of my theories are based on what I want and don’t want for Mac and Barrons. I’m a hopeless romantic so the storyline in my head is ridiculously mushy. LOL

  189. @Harleyquinn0887: yeah now that you’ve reminded me of all that, I guess I am grasping at straws a little about the 4th guy :) I just dont want it to be V’Lane… and that’s the only other thought I’ve got….

  190. @Deanna: Yes, you need to read it ASAP. You will get some answers but you will also have a billion more questions. *sigh*

  191. Julie says:

@Bells: Um…I don’t think your theory is that far fetched. I thought about something along those lines too Bells!

  192. Deanna says:

@Bells: Holy crap…that thought never even crossed my mind!!!!!! Nice, crazy, inventive thoery!

  193. @Bells: Woah Bells baby!! Now there’s a whole new direction. I must get coffee and ponder this one.

  194. @Bells: not rdiculous AT ALL… I like it bc then he wouldn’t be the UK pining for another women ;) AND this is why Mac is so connected (ie dreams and forshadowing) to the little boy b/c it’s her true love BARRONS … end scene :D

  195. @Deanna: It’ll be the fast book you’ll ever read … and then you’ll have to read it again to get make sure you got it all LOL

  196. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Yes, I totally LOVE this theory. It works. I think….

  197. Deanna says:
  198. Julie says:

@Bells: That would make Barrons a descendant of the UK therefore the fae would fear him and obey him and he would have unmatched magic. Maybe as a boy, he was taken in by a Druid and that’s how he knows their magic too?… I always leaned towards Barrons either being the UK or being the child of the UK.

And the more I think about it, the more I like dreamy eye boy being #4 in the church.

  199. Bells says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): I think that is why Barron said to Mac as she was dying in BF that he didn’t mean for any of that happen. He just wanted her help to find the book so he could do what he needed to do. I just can’t wait to find out what the true story is. lol

  200. @Julie: “And the more I think about it, the more I like dreamy eye boy being #4 in the church. ” what?! where did I miss this in the discussion…. and how would he be able to do that? wow …and yuk!

  201. @Bells: Bells, I am seriously even more excited about SF than ever before. omg, I love your theory.

  202. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): I don’t think it was like that either. If this is for a woman, what would that mean for Mac? I know Barrons can be crazy, but falling for Mac while trying to save hos old love is just wrong. I know what you mean about noticing the girl, but didn’t it say she was covered in blood? That and she freaked out. Still possible it was someone else, but still.

  203. Bells says:

@Julie: Have you read Dreamfever yet?

  204. BELLS!!!!

    I agree…I AGREE!!!!

    I LOVE YOUR THEORY!!!!!!!

  205. Julie says:

@Bells: Yes I have, but honestly, the only thing I remember clearly about Dreamfever is Chapter 4! LOL Oh and the very very end $%#@!

  206. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: Thanks. I tried it out on Mandi and she thought it sounded good as well. There are just so many possiblities and I just can’t wait to find out what really happened! If he is the UK’s son, I wonder if the UK will appear in Shadowfever and if they are going to have a showdown!

  207. @Bells: You’re a genius Bells. This is my favorite theory yet.

  208. @Harleyquinn0887: Yeah I think that’s the big struggle. You’ve done something FOREVER and it’s all you know (searching for the book to resurrect your biggest love) and then something comes along that makes all that different. (ie being in love with Mac) and then were does that leave you? What have you been doing with your existence? He thinks “no way I feel this for her. It’s just not possible. I’m just going to fight it and let it go away… but it never does. I dunno, it just seems to me, if he’s such a big ladies man why doesn’t he hit on her more? Why does he fight it SOOO much?

  209. I just discovered clicking the ‘end button’ on my keyboard takes me to the end of the comments. Yes. :)

  210. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): It is not grabbing at straws, just thinking about how Barrons is like. He is not a follower type. He does what he wants when he wants, if he wants your help, he’ll let you know. I don’t think it was V’lane either. Like I said, I think there is a chance it was the dreamy-eyed guy.

  211. Deanna says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): There has been talk that the dreamy eyed boy isn’t really as innocent as he pretends to be. That maybe he is spying on Mac for the LM. Which then came around to him maybe being the four body in the room.

I’m not sure what to believe…I want him to be innocent since I was so drawn to him at the beginning but after a couple things in the book and then what people have said on here, anything is possible!

  212. Ok, open question: If Barrons is a ladies man why does he fight his attraction to Mac soooooo bad? I mean he’s clearly attracted to her, but he won’t ever act out even a little. {and stolen glances at her boobs dont count}

Why wont he just be a guy with her? He obviously has needs…

  213. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: Thanks. I got this idea after re-reading Bloodfever. Then after reading FaeFever, it kind of made a little more sense to me. What child wouldn’t want to bring there parent back, especially after what happened. I don’t know if his mom killed herself, or if that is what everyone is told. Or…maybe she did that so that the UK wouldn’t find his son! Maybe he knew and that was the only way he couldn’t find him! Just like Julie said above, Barrons could’ve been raised by Druids or someone else that could have taught him all that magic. Perhaps that is why he is the age that he is, because he has spent most of his life in the silvers.

  214. Bells says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): I think Barrons is afraid to fall in love, and he knew that he would with Mac maybe. I think his attraction to her turned into something more.

  215. @Bells: Yes that would all totally make sense, especially about not aging. We don’t need SF now Bells. I’m happy with your theory. LOL

  216. @Bells: Oh Bells, I love that theory. It isn’t ridiculous at all. Didn’t think of that. It is good point, what if Barrons is part human-part Fae? He is the son of the UK’s and his concubine. Maybe that is why he knows some much about them.

  217. @Bells: @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Could it be that falling in love is the ONLY thing he fears because if his father was the UK, he knows how it drove his father crazy. Wow, poor sentence structure but whatever. :)

  218. @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Maybe it is about Barrons trying be professional. Let’s not forget he was with Fiona too. I really don’t think this is about another woman for sure.

  219. Bells says:

@Fiction Vixen: @Jessica (The Spinecracker): Yes exactly! He is afraid because of what happened. It’s easier to just have a quick **** than it is to love someone, and he has decided that is the way to go. But with Mac he sees something. She starts off being this small town girl, and she turns into a fighter. He appreciates that about her. Fiona on the other hand just didn’t do it for him.

  220. Julie says:

Oh, and let’s not forget that if Barrons is part fae, it would explain why he sees the fae.

  221. @Fiction Vixen: @Bells: OMG, that would work… There’s something small we’re missing that really puts it all together… I just can’t figure it out. {of course}

but I think we’re REALLY close

  222. Deanna says:

@Jessica (The Spinecracker): Yeah I think that Barrons is a ladies man but he feels that it would be dangerous to himself if he were to act on anything with Mac because she is more than just a piece of…petunia…to him. He is afriad to get involved with her because he is trying to avoid the feelings that have been sparking inside of him since the beginning of the books.

  223. @Fiction Vixen: Good point. If the UK is Barrons dad, Mac would be royally screwed. Maybe that is why Barrons need the book. He needs to find something to kill his crazy dad.

  224. @Deanna: “she is more than just a piece of…petunia…to him. ” :D LOL

  225. Julie says:

What if “crazy dad” is the book? What if they somehow became one? Or if “crazy dad” is the thing Barrons has in his garage?…

  226. Bells says:

Just going to throw this out there. @Julie: That is a great idea as well! Both of them.

  227. @Julie: Good point! (seeing Fae)

  228. @Julie: WHAT WHAT WHAT …my brain is now mush … really interesting thoughts!

  229. You girls are killing me here!! omg this is good.

  230. Bells says:

@Julie: Sorry Julie. I was going to write something else and decided not to. Then I tried to reply to you. lol

  231. Julie says:

    @Bells: That’s fine…I was just a little lost for a sec! lol

  232. Holy wow…these theories….

  233. I have to go, but I’ll check in hopefully this afternoon.

And thanks to FV & Smexy for hosting a great discussion. I think this book and {Dreamfever discussion to come} would have left me a little in the dark without these thoughts. THANKS! :D

  234. Wow! This is such a treat to read while waiting on the next installment. Lots of thoughts now going through my lil head…
Anyone going to NOLA in January? I’ll be there.

    Dawn

    NOT AN ANGEL, OUT NOW!

  235. MinnChica says:

I think you guys just broke my brain with all these awesome theories!! I seriously need to do my FF reread. I didn’t have time!

  236. Bells says:

Alright time for me to head off. I just want to say that I had a wonderful time scrambling my brain thinking about this book and this series today! LOL! This series amazes me and I’m just glad to have others to talk to about it that love it as much as I do! I have to say a big thank you to Fiction Vixen and Smexybooks (Mandi and Tori) for coming up with the re-read. Thanks to Mandi for recommending this series to me. I’m so glad that I read it! :D

  237. @Bells: I’m glad you read it too! LOL

  238. @Julie. That is really good hon. What if dad really is the UK himself? Maybe that is why when Barrons was close enough to touch it, he still couldn’t. He’s just not evil enough for daddy. Or he is hiding good old dad in his garage? We know there is definitely more than one of those beasts. Thank you Julie, you just blew my mind. LOL

  239. I think the “beast” references to the book in FF def play into something later…I’m trying to wait for DF! :(

  240. Julie says:

@Harleyquinn0887: LOL! All stuff I’ve been thinking but have been to afraid to say. But Bells’ theory was pretty much the same as one of mine so she gave me the courage! :)

  241. Julie says:

@Mandi Schreiner: I know. Now that I noticed that too (and had forgotten how Mac refers to the book as Beast) I want to re-read Dreamfever now and see where my brain will take me with all the newly remembered info about the book. But I don’t have time right now! :(

  242. @Julie: I have a feeling I’m going to get so much more out of DF this time around. :)

  243. Julie says:

@Fiction Vixen: Oh me too! ‘Cause you know there’s room in my brain for more! LOL

  244. @Julie: LMAO, me too…plenty of room for more! lol

  245. Jen D. says:

    @Deanna: Me too!!!

  246. Jen D. says:

My brain has officially melted after catching up on all the comments and theories from this afternoon. Love the massive brainstorming session. Must get my hands on DF as soon as I get home.

  247. Judi L says:

Great discussion! I tried to read this post on my lunch but couldn’t keep up. You gals have come up with some great theories. Jan 18 can’t get here soon enough.

  248. @Bells: I came up with this theory after reading Bells theory about Barrons being able to time travel through the mirrors and that he’s trying to change something he screwed up. What if he is somehow responsible for Alina’s death and that is what he is trying to change? I also had the wild thought that the women is somehow Alina, but that is just crazy I know. These books drive me crazy with all the theories.

I also agree with whoever said that Barrons is the UK’s son. It just makes so much sense…

  249. I’m dying to spill my theory about the Dreamy Eyed Guy but must wait for the next book!

Could Fiona be sending the pages of the journal? She’s with the LM now and could therefore have had access to the journal. AND, she’s such a vindictive bitch I could totally see her doing it.

Shout out for Christian – I heart him so bad!!!

I was also thinking maybe Mac was the dead girl Barrons carried out of the mirror and she didn’t recognize herself, but the girl is blonde and Mac is brunette now so that doesn’t work :( (or I guess :) because I don’t want Mac to die *duh*)

I don’t think the LM is #4, I’m suspicious of V’lane. I know, I know, highly unlikely, but something about him bugs me – maybe he got impatient and figured he’d be able to control her if she was pri-ya.

  250. Sophia (FV) says:

@Colette @ A Buckeye Girl Reads: I don’t know. If he were responsible for Alina’s death I just don’t think he could look Mac in the eye every day. Yes, he’s badass Barrons but even for Barrons that’s a stretch. Who knows though, anything is possible. LOL

  251. Sophia (FV) says:

@Patti (Book Addict): Oh I can’t wait to hear your theory on dreamy-eyed guy. Email if you want to!

I don’t know if it’s Fioana sending the pages or not. The pages seem to be giving Mac insight to her sisters time in Dublin and what she was trying to do. Would Fiona want to help Mac? Or maybe Fiona doesn’t realize it helps her and she is just tying hurt her?

    I want answers. NOW! lol

  252. Julie says:

@Sophia (FV): OMG! I had never stopped to notice how the journal pages really are helping Mac. I’ve been too busy saying “stupid mean person is sending pages to Mac and making her sad and that person is not nice and needs a time out!” But it’s totally true! Sophia you are so smart! Okay, then it’s dreamy eyes guy. He’s spying/bad but isn’t happy he’s on the ‘bad’ side so he wants to try to help Mac win. He’s close to the LM so he would have access to the journal. He would also be the fourth guy at the church. Familiar and a little more gentle but still there with the LM so he needs to pretend he’s mean. And Barrons’ is the UK’s son and he needs the book to right some wrong. There you go. There are your answers Sophia! LOL

  253. @Julie: Thank you Julie! I should have just asked you a long time ago rather than allow myself to be tortured all this time LOL. I wish January would just get here. :)

  254. Julie says:

@Fiction Vixen: January will come soon and we’ll read Shadowfever and we’ll all be amazed by simplicity of it all…or confused by its complexity! LOL

  255. @Julie: Yes, true. And we’ll be disappointed because it’s over. We just can’t be satisfied can we? LOL

  256. Spaz says:

I am soooo TARDY TO THIS PARTY!

I wasn’t able to finish the book until today and all I can say is holy shiznit. This book took me longer to get through and I realized after finishing it today, it was because I was DREADING the ENDING.

I have gone through and read all the comments and I can’t tell you all -Thank You For Your Ideas and Thoughts- enough!!!

    1. – Bells, your theory most definitely rings most true for me!

    — He has been traveling through the mirrors every so many years to find the book – shown in the photos Christian shows Mac of him over the decades, not aged at all? Maybe his visits to Dublin coincide with each time the Sidhe Seer’s abby burns down and it has to rebuilt and reinforced? Fiona was his “human” he had to use most recently to help him find the book? And perhaps that was why she hated Mac so viciously, she knew she was being replaced by someone who had a real chance at doing what she failed at?

    2. I think Darroc is telling the truth about being able to bring Alina “back” … but there are a metric ton of strings attached to that deal!

    3. I do not believe the 4th person involved in her assault is either LM or Vlane. Not at all. I DO think this person did not want to be identified, though, and that leads me to believe it is someone she would recognize, but not someone she’d be able to identify by nothing else than the face…. As of right now that leads me to believe it’s the Dreamy Eyed boy only because she ONLY knows him by his face!

    4. Could “The Five” be the McCellan Druids – Christian’s uncles and those hunky chunks of lovin from the Highlander series?

    5. Mac’s father is definitely a mystery, but I don’t think it’s the Seelie/Unseelie King, I think the Seelie/Unseelie King is Barron’s dad. If that is true then The Book couldn’t be her father cuz that would make them, like, siblings right?? No.

    6. Barrons+Ryodan+fighting=HOTHOTHOTHOTHOTHOT

Thanks everyone, this is so much fun and I’m so glad to have people to share theories with this time around!!!

  257. @Spaz: Ok well, you are NOT allowed to say “tardy to the party” because it makes me think of that weird housewife on Real Housewives Of Atlanta. ;)

I am really glad I’m not the only one that really liked the Barrons/Ryodan fight. hehe

I agree, it’s been really fun to be able to share theories and thoughts during this re-read. I have learned so much and picked up clues I would have missed otherwise.

  258. Wanderer says:

Late to the party (as usual) :D Just browsed through the first few comments on page 1. Had to stop when I got to Bells’ theory. Very good one! I’m re-listening to the audio of all the books and just finished Faefever. There was so much information in that book that I forgot about so I’m glad I decided to re-read the series before ShadowFever comes out. For a minute I was starting to think maybe Barrons is the Unseelie King but now your theory is sounding better.

  259. Lola says:

I’m positive that the Dreamy Eyed Guy has somehting to do with all of this. Why on earth would his character be introduced and given so much ‘screen time’ if he wasn’t.

I think it could be that he is an Unseelie Prince (but on mute) and thus it could be possible that he was the ‘fourth face’ or possibly the one who killed her sister. I mean, he immediatly starts calling her ‘beautiful girl’ and tries suspiciously hard to make her more interested in him. I think this idea would also tie in with others I have seen about him being the one who is sending her pages of her sister’s diary.. maybe he isn’t actually evil, but on the bad side and dosn’t want to be, so whenever the LM’s back is turned (since he may be the one who has it)Dreamy Boy sends out pages to help Mac!

Then again, all this could be a load of garbage! hhahaha.

I think it would be really interesting if it was Barrons who killed Alina! Obviously it would be WAY bad, but still, it could be really interesting to see Mac’s response and feelings.

I have a hunch that maybe Rowena isn’t the Grand Mistress and that Mac is, hmmm.
Also, who is the woman she saw on the pages of the Book as it fell open.. was it her mother, or Alina.. or someone else maybe.

I saw another idea in the comments above and I think whoever said it could really be on to something!

It was the person who said that: Barrons is the son of the Concubine and the Unseelie King, and thus is a bit Fae but not completely and that would also give him all those weird powers etc. Maybe when Mac goes into his mind, she thinks it is BARRONS eyes she is seeing out of, but it could be his mothers, maybe his fathers! Thus he wants the book back in order to change something that has happened in his past, maybe it could be the child who dies in his memories (IF the child was not him and mac WAS seeing things through BARRONS eyes and not his mothers\fathers)

Something that I think is really sneeky of Moning is that we always hear about these ‘cuffs’ that Ryodan and Barrons wear, but we don’t know ANYTHING about them.. what is up with THAT !

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ DREAMFEVER – SPOILER ALERT.

BUT.. DUN DUN DUNNN, Barrons could be the Unseelie King\Prince as he is the physical manifestation of the Beast of the Book! And some of the Unseelie Fae are scared of him (Shadows and Hunters).

  260. Wanderer – Yes – Bells theory is pretty cool!! 1/18 is coming, right? LOL I had forgotten a ton too!!!

Lola – I am loving your thoughts!! Dreamy-Eye guy is bad news I think! And I love your thoughts about what Mac “sees” in DF… :) I need to reread DF right away.

Okay I am horribly late with this and I know we start talking about Dreamfever today but I’m not done the reread yet. After rereading the others there was so much I’d forgotten or more probable skipped over in my excitement. Anyways I still have questions and theories I want to address and don’t want to wait till I finish Dreamfever.

@Bells, I am in love with this idea about Barrons being the son of the unseelie king and the concubine.

Okay question one, how does Christian know that Alina’s boyfriend has the look of an Fae when he admits he can’t see them to Mac? I don’t think he would have many fae appearing to him.
He might have gotten this if he knows Adam from the Highlander series but he’d have met Adam after he was turned human. Maybe the MacKeltar castle is where the Queen is hiding cause she trusts the druids she placed the walls care into and she is allowing the MacKeltars to view her? I don’t know.

there was talk about Alina and Mac’s mother. This is my theory on that:
Rowena mentions I think in the first book that Mac has the look of the Patrona (don’t know if I am spelling it right since I’m “rereading” with audio tapes cause I’ve lent my books to a friend that I wanted to share my KMM crack with), which seems to me to be a big figure in the sihde seers society if this figure has their own title. In Latin Patrona (at least when I googled it) is the female form of a protector. So let’s say that Mac’s mother was the Patrona. The sihdeseer gifts, we know are genetic, so it’s safe to say that her mother would have been able to sense the book like Mac and Alina and her responsibility as Patrona was to protect the book. Someone told Mac that the book had been missing for about 20 years (about the same time as Mac was adopted by the Lanes), so chances are that when the book went missing, their mother knew that all hell would break loose so she whisked Mac and Alina away from Ireland with the provision that they were not to return.

Who knows why the book suddenly went missing after being protected for so long. Maybe Mac’s mother knew that plot to use the book (*cough by Rowena cough*) or some such.

Those are my thoughts the matters. Can’t wait till the 18th!
